Talk:WikiResults
Add topicThis is the talk page of the proposed WikiResults project aimed to be the one central storage of uncommented data in the internet. Thanks for any comments. Okino 01:35, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
The name
[edit]WikiResults
[edit]WikiResults is the original name proposed for the project. It is derived from the fact that I thought the project should be most suitable for sports events results, election results etc. This name however can somehow reduce the range of areas of human activities and even natural phenomena, which provide interesting storable data. - This I think is the best name.
An alternative of WikiScores might be better, as it has few syllables and (IMO) rolls off the tongue a little easier. But I'm not very fussed.Changed my mind, as there already is a WikiScores project proposed, I hadn't realised the ambiguity in the name. Qwghlm 17:23, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
WikiRecords
[edit]WikiRecords is a good possible name for the project as the project will store different records or entries. It can however mislead the public to the sphere of musical records. Okino 01:35, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
WikiStatistics
[edit]WikiStatistics is my another proposed name for the project, but problematic, as the project should include also the lists and other “articles”, which cannot be easily named statistics. Okino 01:35, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
WikiData
[edit]WikiData is the best way to call the project, but the problem is that the name is already used for another project. The other, smaller problem is, that the project is not proposed as a structured database. Okino 01:35, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- The idea is okay, not great.--Sir James Paul 02:48, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- I understand, but what shall I do to promote it to a great status and to attract some more attention? Okino 02:34, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
WikiSports (?)
[edit]One branching discussion, and a source of some heated conention, on WP is that sports match results are very pertinent and related to the more ency'like articles about teams and seasons (even) on WP. A few have suggested that a separate WikiSports be created for the sole purpose of stats, scores, data, etc., related to any amateur or professional sport. I hope I'm not derailing discussion here by adding this. I only have contact with the "sports results" arguments on WP. Davidbspalding 16:39, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- As the project's scope is much wider than sports statistics but also other statistics I don't think WikiSports is a suitable name. Qwghlm 17:22, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- Also i think the site wikisports.com has already been registered and is in operation so it might get confusing.
