Other projects

Personally, I don't see why you don't want to just use Wikipedia (for all info), Wiktionary (for etymology/meaning, which can also be on WP), and Wikidata/OmegaWiki (for storing facts/other things about names). PiRSquared17 (talk) 16:45, 18 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think the same as PiRSquared, everything you mentioned that would be included on WikiNames can easily be included on a Wikipedia article about that name. What the project would bring more? Amqui (talk) 17:18, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wiktionary

[edit]

Obviously, WT handles special names, including etymology, language, and pronounciation. It also has links to Wikipedia for people with that name; see Hereward and Wikt has a link to Hereward the Wake. No need for a new project.--Seonookim (talk) 05:49, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Its a collection

[edit]

For the average non-wikimedian savvy user, having the data about the name spread over 3 websites can be daunting, I've been on various wikimedia projects for around 6 months now and I still lose my way trying to find information. This project is designed to collate the information into one area so if you need to find out about a name, you don't got to Wikipedia for one thing, Wikitionary for another, no. If you want to find out about names, you go to Wikinames. Oh and about the other Wikiname, I had no idea it existed :/. Sorry, this idea came up in a discussion between me and eptalon on #wikipedia-simple on freenode.

Project name

[edit]

A word of advice: Do not call it WikiGenealogy, and take it out of the other names section. It will create far too much confusion with the proposed adoption of WeRelate. Nick1372 (talk) 18:46, 21 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

What kind of names?

[edit]

The mentions of genealogy imply that this project is only for human names, but that's never specified anywhere in the proposal. What is the scope of this project? LtPowers (talk) 19:22, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
