Wikiversity
[edit]How does this tool relate to Wikiversity? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:08, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- Wikiversity aims at enabling collaborative development of textbooks, and offers relatively few features for online learning, compared to platforms specifically designed for online learning. Since participants will not be developing their own curricula, priority is being placed on using an open platform that will provide a higher level of functionality to ensure we are able to develop courses that are more interactive, allowing for marking individual non-public assignments, non-public grading, etc.
- Adding state-of-the-art LMS (learning management system) features to Wikiversity would probably entail an engineering investment of several dozen person-years, and was a complete non-starter in terms of available WMF resources. Our priority is to make progress on the strategic goal of skill building, not necessarily to make progress on building a skill-building platform. Asaf (WMF) (talk) 10:31, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- I would like request a help on how to join the course: reading wikipedia in the classroom.
Notifications for comments
[edit]@Asaf (WMF) When users leave comments or reflections, as on this page, does that generate a notification in some way or a mail to someone? Trying to figure out the best way to see them and follow up, and to make sure notifications does not end up in an abandoned account somewhere. /Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 09:33, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, Axel!
- The Instructor tab has a Discussion tab with some options for following specific threads and receiving an email digest. I am not sure if there's an option to follow all future threads by default; we'll need to ask the platform developers.
- I am on vacation for the rest of the month, and my colleague Melissa is covering WikiLearn while I am gone, so she should be able to follow up with more information. Asaf (WMF) (talk) 06:25, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, forgot to tag Axel Pettersson (WMSE). Asaf (WMF) (talk) 06:25, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks @Asaf (WMF). I'll look around there to see if it's possible to add a non-personal contact address and make sure there's always a ping. Also hoping for further input and help in this as I imagine others might have the same issue when staff and volunteers comes and goes. /Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 09:33, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the ping, @Asaf (WMF). Hi, @Axel Pettersson (WMSE)! Thank you for reaching out and sharing this input - it's really valuable for us to enhance the experience of course creators on the platform. I've shared your query with our platform developer partners and I'll get back to you as soon as I get some guidance. Happy to provide further input and support as you build your course on WikiLearn! - ✅ Quick update to notify that the feature requested is active now. It can be enabled for Discussion Admins under the Instructor dashboard. Thank you for the helpful input, @Axel Pettersson (WMSE)! MGuadalupe (WMF) (talk) 17:24, 9 February 2024 (UTC)

UTF8 issue
[edit]Hello ! Where can I signal a bug with UTF8 ? WikiLearn shows my username as "L_na". Léna (talk) 15:19, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, @Léna. Thank you for reporting this issue. Indeed, the platform's username field does not properly support UTF-8; we have an open ticket for fixing it. It will be resolved in the coming couple of months.
- (Note that you don't need to type this mangled username anywhere, as the log-in is done using the Wikimedia button that takes you to Meta using OAuth.) Asaf (WMF) (talk) 09:25, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
Translation
[edit]Dear all Just a quick question. I unfortunatlely cant seem to either find the translation of the software to WikiLearn on Transifex (I think it was on transifex and was called something like OEdX). Perhaps I need to be assigned to find it at transifex? Kind regards, Peterleth Peterleth (talk) 16:14, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, @Peterleth. Here is a link that works for me. Asaf (WMF) (talk) 12:39, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Asaf (WMF)This now just shows me that it is archived. Unclear to me if this is now https://explore.transifex.com/open-edx/openedx-translations/ since Swedish isn't listed there but we currently have partial Swedish translations deployed at learn.wiki / André Costa (WMSE) (talk) 22:46, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thakn you for bringing this to our attention. It turns out that Swedish (along with a few other languages) was for some reason dropped from later versions of Open edX core project, and we are now looking into it, and are waiting for information from the core developers on why that happened and what it would take to enable Swedish again, as we upgrade our installation to the latest revisions. @MGuadalupe (WMF) or I will get back to you with further information when we have it. Wikidata 101: An Introduction - course evaluation
[edit]Hello, I completed the Wikidata 101 course, but I haven't received a final evaluation. It's been several weeks since the course closed, and it still says that not enough of my peers have evaluated my work to determine the grade for the final assessment. Is there a way to know if I passed the course? Thank you! Ann Anonymous2024917 (talk) 20:18, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, @Anonymous2024917. It looks like there were not enough learners taking the course to finish the peer assessments in the time range set by the course designers. Perhaps @Mohammed Abdulai (WMDE) could shed light on how the team plans to assess your work. Asaf (WMF) (talk) 22:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for responding!
- Ann Anonymous2024917 (talk) 00:55, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Looking forward to helping you out! -Mohammed Abdulai (WMDE) (talk) 19:29, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
KaBri9556 (talk) 17:23, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @KaBri9556. Could you try enrolling to another course on WikiLearn and tell us if that does work? Asaf (WMF) (talk) 22:43, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
