Lack of scope on Africa
[edit]Hi Csisc and tanks a lot to spend your time organizing this WikiIndaba 2018. Here just some questions, in the frame of my PhD thesis participant observation :
- Is that the all team than took the decision to decline this submission ?
- I'm surprising by the fact than the decision was founded on the fact than Wikimedia grant as lacking of scope on Africa. Is that really few people in Africa submitting grant to Wikimedia foundation or are your considering the topic to specialized for the WikiIndaba audiences ?
Keep in mine than this submission is just a short presentation of 5 min including reply to possible questions, nothing more but in fact also nothing important. There is just two persons interested buy the topic, but no problem for this, I can send them a link to my research page. Good continuation ! - Lionel Scheepmans: On behalf of the WikiIndaba 2018 Programme Committee, I thank you for your answer. The problem is that the proposal analyzes IEG applications in general and does not explain the situation of Africa-related IEG applications. In fact, participants are rather interested in learning about why many African IEG applications are rejected. However, I think that this work can be an excellent contribution to Wikimania this year and we encourage you to submit it to this international conference. --Csisc (talk) 15:23, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Good idea Csisc for wikimania, still in Africa for the rest. « On behalf of the WikiIndaba 2018 Programme Committee », you means that all programme committee members has take part of the decision ? - Lionel Scheepmans: Unfortunately, sure. In fact, I do not write anything on Meta before the agreement of the other members of the committee. However, you can still discuss it during or after dinners with interested participants if you like that. Absolutely, I will be happy to discuss your thesis with you during a dinner within WikiIndaba next March. --Csisc (talk) 17:01, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- So, a big deal and lot of communications as usual in Wikimedia project. Be the force with all of you !
- I gone a finish the statistical work before WikiIndaba and share it with interested participants for sure. The 5 min talk is not important for me in fact. I'm just making my observation participation to well understand how every things works. I've already both my fly ticket for Tunisia and also planing a work shop in Gafsa where lives a good friend. If I get the scholarship, I will be present in WikiIndaba for sure and maybe talk about Wikiversity and his potentiality for Africa. - Lionel Scheepmans: Excellent. Of course, if your scholarship application is accepted, you will deal with Wikiversity as we accepted your proposal about it. Looking forward to seeing you in Tunis next March. --Csisc (talk) 18:09, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
