Disclamer

Eric Luth (WMSE) I think it wold be usefull to add a disclamer about local policies on recievieng material prises from abroad that depends of country where winner is from. A question

Hello, i want to ask about this point (Creating a new article on Bruna Moura in Swedish: 3,000 bytes, with three sources and internal links = 1 + 1 = 2p.). if i added more than 3,000 bytes, like 6,000. so it should be 1*2= 2p for size or not? -- تالا (talk) 15:22, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

English bonus list finished!

Scoring: related articles?

I was wondering if for the purposes of scoring (seen here at WikiGap Challenge/Participants) articles related to women are counted. The text on the challenge main page, WikiGap Challenge, mentions "articles related to women", though the scoring explanation on /Participants only mentions biographies.

Also, the WikiGapFinder is not working, at least when I visited it just now.--Anon423 (talk) 18:40, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

Some doubts

Hello Eric Luth (WMSE)! I have some doubts because I am experiencing this for the first time.

1. Does it need submission like other contests in fountain page?
2. Does women related articles include goddesses, divine and mythical women?
3. What is meant by "bonus article"?
4. If an article is a candidate for another contest, can it be also a part of this contest if created/expanded/developed within the said time (8th March - 8th May)?
5. Is the timing really 8th March - 8th May (2 months according to the first heading of the WikiGap Challenge/Background) or 8th March - 8th April (1 month according to the last paragraph of the WikiGap Challenge/Background)?
6. Does the contest need local organizers, local juries for respective language wikis?
7. I have two home wikis, Simple English Wikipedia (simple) and Meitei Wikipedia (mni). I signed highlighting both in WikiGap Challenge/Participants. Is it ok?
8. Is this event related to Feminism and Folklore 2022? Or, are the two events independent from each other?

Hi Haoreima! Thanks for reaching out. I'll try and reply to all your questions below:

1. No, it is enough to only list the entries on the participants page!
2. That's a good question that we haven't had before. I'd say yes.
3. Bonus articles are articles that are nominated and proposed because they fill critical gaps. They will be listed on the "list" page, linked to from the sidebar.
4. Yes, that is fine.
5. Thanks for noticing that there are different dates! The correct timing is 8th March-8th May. We decided to prolong it, because of the many difficulties the world is currently encountering.
6. No, it doesn't. You can still write in any language you wish.
7. Yes, it is ok to participant in two languages.
8. This is independent from Feminism and Folklore 2022, but of course the two challenges share the same objectives.

Article size

Is article's size taken in consider when counting points by (organisers)? I mean an article with 2000 - 3000 bytes isn't like an article with 4000 bytes and above. Thank you.--Amr F.Nagy (talk) 01:37, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi Amr F.Nagy! This year, we don't take size into consideration as long as the edit has over 2000 bytes. Last year, we played with a quality criteria and the scoring has also changed a bit over the years. But this year, we just kept the scoring very simple. We would gladly get your input on how to create a score system that is not overly complicated but would make the competition even better! Hi Josefine Hellroth Larsson (WMSE), I understand your intention for a simple scoring system, but the effort to write a 12,000-byte article (for example) isn't the same as the effort to write a 2,000-byte article (taking into account the quality standards), but as long as it is the same, the participant may commit to creating/translating a 2000-byte article only. I see that by not counting the size, this (may) be a motivation to write incomplete articles as long as only 2000 bytes are required for one single article, especially if it's translated from the original. A participant who writes an article with the size of 2000 bytes may not know that the infoboxes, discographies, filmographies.. etc are part of this size and later he/she may be surprised after excluding the article because it is less than the required size. Hello Eric Luth (WMSE), Josefine Hellroth Larsson (WMSE) Sorry, but is there a logical explanation for the reason behind the long delay of delivering the shipments and not responding to some of the winners’ emails, or not contacting at them (as in the case of Tuga1143, Krutyvuss)? and Why didn't you announce the winner of extra prize till now?

I can only sincerely apologize for the delays in sending out the prizes. It was due to some miss-communication on our behalf, as well as over a month of holidays for everyone among the organizers. However, a couple of weeks ago, we sent out the prizes and they should be well on their way by now. As we sent them through mail without tracing, I cannot tell you where they are or when they will arrive.

Regarding the bonus prize, the winner is @Haoreima and they have been told so. We will update the results page with this information as well.

Again, I sincerely apologize and promise to do better in the future.

Information WikiGap Challenge 2023

Hi all,

Apologies for our slow communication.

We are reshaping our collaboration with the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and thus also how we are coordinating the global WikiGap Campaign. Due to this, we will not have the capacity to organize the WikiGap Challenge this year, but will spend this year brainstorming and thinking about how we can innovate and improve the entire campaign for the future.

We would more than love to hear your thoughts on how we can do this in the best way.  Feel free to drop us an email at wikigap@wikimedia.se, and give your thoughts on what has worked with the WikiGap Challenge, what you would like to see improved, and if you have any further suggestions on how to strengthen the entire campaign for the future.
