Walled gardens

[edit]

AFAICT, the first 12 findings can be summarised as "the world is full of walled gardens and Wikipedia should try to also offer one". Instead, we should be the exception, or we'll lose. --Nemo 09:38, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Popularity

[edit]

The idea of «revealing some of the metadata (e.g. number of edit(ors) and / or recent edits)» is an old one (see also mw:Timestamp position modification), but such information is irrelevant, misleading and miseducative. We are not supposed to encourage the thinking that the more popular something is the more one should trust it: quite the contrary. Our role is to promote critical thinking and the analysis of sources. It's also not our goal for people to trust Wikipedia articles' content. --Nemo 09:38, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Free knowledge and collaboration

[edit]

Yes, our main goal is to explain the importance of free culture (as in free copyright licenses) and the collaborative processes. The most direct way to do so is to involve people in the editing, reducing the divide between content consumption (which should never be passive) and content production. --Nemo 09:38, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

I see that the text is marked as draft. If you're still working on this, you could start researching what we really need to know, i.e. how to communicate the importance of free licenses and collaboration/active usage of the wikis. What concepts resonate with the audiences in these countries? --Nemo 10:12, 25 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
