Central notice

Since the vast majority of editors couldn't possibly become a steward, isn't there a better way to call for candidates than on top of every page? --Apoc2400 17:28, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

But without wide advertising two things happen: Good candidates, who may never have heard of Stewards before, won't come forward; we run the risk that being a Steward becomes limited to a self-selecting small group. The only way to ensure fair opportunities and to find the best candidates is to advertise as widely as possible. Maybe those people who have never heard of Stewards before won't stand for election this year, but they might be interested enough to participate in the election and maybe stand next time round. What is this

I am very new in wikipedia, and I was wondering if someone could answer me this: What is a Steward and what does he do? I have read the stewards page and the steward's handbook, but it's still not clear to me and I hope someone can explain it to me in more plain or specific way. Stewards basically act as replacements when a wiki's admins are missing and there are emergencies (like rampant vandalism). Since they're usually located all over the world they're able to give good coverage when immediate action is required. -- Mentifisto 18:30, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Stewards assign userrights in accordance with community wishes. They also supply administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight services as needed for wikis which don't have their own users with those tools, or when those users are absent and action is needed. Questions about voting eligibility

The voting eligibility guidelines are unclear to me. I assume that one must meet all of the listed requirements, but that is not made clear. Also, will the minimum edit requirements remain as they are for future elections? That will ensure that new editors never get to vote because it will be impossible to ever have 600 edits prior to the listed dates. Vampyrecat 02:05, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
