Talk:Small Wiki Editor Engagement Project
Add topicDocumentation plans for this project
[edit]The problem in Bangla Wikipedia is a problem in many small Wikipedias. I think that the actions which members of this project take will have an impact beyond Bangla speakers; this is also setting a precedent for engaging editors in any small wiki. I know that the original proposal talked about this but the first report only mentions collecting data for the management of the Bangla project.
Will this project be only doing work for Bangla Wikipedia, or will it documenting the work in a more general way for broader application? Even though I think that this work has wide appeal, I think it might be overly ambitious to track everything for everyone and I would like to see if this approach can just be made to work on Bangla Wikipedia.
I really liked the first report! If only that much happens regularly, and the Bangla project got all the support possible, then I think that would be great! Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:55, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Bluerasberry, thanks for your comment! Glad to hear that you like the report!
- Actually the project idea that me and Siko outlined was prepared for a broader prospective. But when we started the work we realized, there is a lot to know about smaller Wikipedias (even with a single project), so to be efficient with the future projects, we thought about experimenting our ideas and solution on one project first. In that way, we can find out some common facts about small Wikipedias and also solution to that so eventually we will be able to set-up something proofed that will be usable for broader application.
- So now we are going thoroughly with one project first. We will figure out the actual scenario and will find out the problems, potentialities, and solution. And I am sure you are noticing how we have started with Bangla wiki from the very beginning. Tanvir Rahman (talk) 17:50, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
- I think an intensive case study just of Bangla Wikipedia would be useful. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 22:39, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
Mentor team
[edit]In the first report on this project, one of the goals is to "Setup a mentor team for follow-up with newbies". The report does not say how that might look. I know that User:Sbouterse (WMF) is one of the submitters of the original project and I know her involvement in the English Wikipedia WP:TEAHOUSE. Has anyone in project this considered the Teahouse model for newbie outreach, and if so, what was the thought? What other models for this mentor team are under consideration? Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:01, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- Teahouse is indeed a great project, and we are surely considering implementing a mentorship program like this. But as you know small wikis do not have that much capable volunteers to help out in a mentorship program; also there is an issue with motivating people to edit Wikipedia as there is not enough editors/newbies, we are also thinking about modifying it according to the projects' need.
