Questions[edit]

  1. Global blocking is only applicable for IP addresses, I assume the Japanese Wikipedia users don't want Mer du Japon's IP range blocked, as it will most likely affect other contributors, correct?
  2. Account locking is only used for instances where someone is vandalizing, spamming, or similar activities.
  3. Do we want to open the can of worms of having policies affect editing on other projects?
    1. If an German Wikipedia editor wrote these articles on the French Wikipedia, would the same action be requested?
    2. If an editor posted something banned on his home wiki, but was allowable on Japanese Wikipedia, would you block him for something he did on a different project?

I'm not sure we should establish a precedent like this. Kylu 15:22, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kylu, I'm not involved into this (because I'm no longer active there since they blocked me), but as an active member of other ja wikis and a native speaker, I could give some insight.
  1. For global block, I understand you are right. I guess they are confused it with global lock which affects accounts.
  2. For opening can of worms ... uh-oh. No comment. But it could be a possibility they missed our diversity as an international project. I would like some users who are trusted on their project, specially who would like to get involved into the global community, like steward candidates, to give more light.

Possible solution[edit]

Here is a possible solution to the problem, and it would be nice if someone could translate it into Japanese and provide it to the Japanese wiki.

The problem is that interwiki links would provide the name.

Interwiki links are normally inserted by a bot.

Create a black list of pages that have interwiki links that reveal the names of the individuals. The bots will not produce interwiki links for those pages.

There should be no problem with other wikis and Japanese law after that point. Ottava Rima 15:54, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

The same, for me: it's just a {{nobots}} matter. --Vituzzu 16:01, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
