Google Knowledge Graph

[edit]

@RWeissburg (WMF) I am interested in the Wikimedia Enterprise Project and how Google uses the API-Services. I plan to participate and present something about the Google Knowledge Graph and the Wikimedia Enterprise project in a few months at an virtual meetup in the German Wikipedia called Digitaler Themenstammtisch. Do you have further Information about how Google processes the content to bring it as an infobox to the search results or can you ask Google if they are willing to provide free accessible informations about how they are processing the content before showing it. Hi @Hogü-456, Thanks for the question! I'm going to ask @nperry to answer your question, as he manages the day-to-day partnership with Google. He's currently on vacation, but will be back in early July so it should work with your timeline.
The short answer is that while we partner with Google on many things, as outlined in this page, the content they currently pull into the infobox (what they call the Knowledge Panel) they do via regular APIs and scraping. I'll let Nicholas add additional details and answer your direct question about talking to Google about sharing more details. For what it's worth, we've found Google very open to engaging our community, so if you'd like someone from Google to join you at the conference and share additional info, we'd be happy to connect you to folks over there! ~ RWeissburg (WMF) (talk) 22:14, 27 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Hogü-456, there are a wide variety of factors and inputs that come together to form Google's Knowledge Graph and Knowledge Panels. Here you'll find some information that Google has publicly documented which explains the process. Within that article there's also a link which further explains how their search algorithms rank, organize, and correct/remove information when necessary.
Let me know if you have any specific questions that aren't covered in the documentation and I'd be happy to reach out to Google for more information or connect you with someone there. NPerry (WMF) (talk) 18:40, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Date of this article?

[edit]

For volunteering contributors not familair with all the ins and outs of Wikimedia Governance, it would be very helpful when articles like this one, would bear a date of original publishing (and possibly of the last update). Thanks for your attenttion and your engagement, Kevin Bouwens (talk) 09:39, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
