Question
[edit]My question is: how should this help to evaluate our organizational effectiveness? It asks questions but it is not clear what the 'correct' answer is. What will we learn more, compared to what we already know (because we are the ones who answer the questions?). Thanks for clarification. --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 22:12, 1 December 2014 (UTC), Wikimedia Czech Republic.
- Thanks for a great question, Vojtěch. While there is no “correct” response, we did create these questions based on our (TCC and WMF’s) understanding of what Wikimedia organizations are doing and what resources or capacity they might need to do those things more effectively. That understanding itself is based on many conversations with different Wikimedia organizations in different contexts, combined also with TCC’s own expertise and knowledge of what volunteer-run organizations need to be effective and have impact.
- When the questions are answered and submitted to TCC, a results report will be sent back to you. This will help you see where you scored high (where you have strong resources and ability) and where you scored lower (where you may lack resource or ability – and there may be good reasons for this, so it is not to say that you are failing if you score low in any particular area).
- When you have those results you can then go to the OE User Guide and Learning Center on Meta to see how to interpret them. For example, if you scored lower in “partnerships” as a strategy, and you know that you want to improve your effectiveness in that area, you could go to the corresponding section of the Learning Center where you would find a list of recommendations. The Learning Center also includes links to community resources that can help you get started, and provides a place for different Wikimedia organizations to share observations with one another. In this way the Questionnaire, User Guide and Learning Center together constitute the OE Tool.
- If you find that the responses don't tally with your own (or your Board/staff's) understanding of the organisation, then it would be a good time to a) ask yourselves whether you need to reflect on the organisation's work slightly differently or b) let the WMF team know that we need to modify and adapt the current suggested responses to reflect your context! This is certainly work in progress, so we very much value the feedback you have for us, as you use this tool. Looking forward to hearing back from you once you try the survey, ASengupta (WMF) (talk) 00:05, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- OK, that sounds reasonable :) Thanks ASengupta for your response. --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 11:21, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
OMG it is incredibly long! --Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 13:54, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
