Talk:Open Knowledge For All
Add topicThis as per the continuation of the discussion in Nepali Wikipedia Village Pump that we Wikimedians in Nepal are concerned because of following:
- False claim that your organization organized Wikicamp Nepal 2018, being organizing team member we did not know about your involvement and the document nowhere states your affiliation and collaboration.
- Your use of Wikicamp Nepal 2018 photographs without consent from the team in your website neither proper attribution to Wikimedia Commons or to it's author : screenshots of your website on August 10 2019.
- Your use of Wikimedia Foundation owned trademarks without proper consent from Wikimedia foundation or it's Affiliates.
We are further more concerned since your organization stands on such a fraudulent base and moving forward to seek affiliation from Wikimedia Foundation as a User Group.
We'd like to request you to:
- provide your explanations
- correct your claims
- take steps regarding providing proper attributions while using digital assets
- seek formal consent from Wikimedia Foundation or it's affiliate using their trademarks.
We'll also notify about your activities to the Wikimedia Foundation and Affiliations Committee सरोज कुमार ढकाल (talk) 03:44, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information regarding the issue. OKFA is purely non profitable organization working in digital field to enhance the knowledge base of the society for a good cause.
As far as Wikicamp 2018 is concerned, OKFA had provided volunteers and administrative support to the organizing team with prior information to the foundation. But OKFA was unable to involve in prior discussion with the Wikimedia communities regarding using of those contents. So, OKFA would to like to express its apology on this issue. As soon as the issue arised, OKFA removed all the contents of Wikicamp 2018 from its website. And from now onwards, OKFA will assure that no any such issues arise and will only have the involvement in Wikimedia projects with proper discussion in the community. --Sanjog.dev (talk) 16:48, 11 August 2019 (UTC) (Board Member)
- Hello सरोज कुमार ढकाल,
Sanjog Ji is way faster than me. He already replied here but i would like to put things in my way how i see the things. So, I hope you are well. Thank you for the concerns. Let me explain, my points are as follows:
- First of all, have you heard of Transitive relation? A=B, B=C then A=C likewise, I am an organizer of WCN2018; I am representative of OKFA then simply, OKFA is an organizer of WCN2018. I may be wrong, but technically i don't see any false claim in this. I don't see any problem, if OKFA has to be behind the scene. Don't you agree with me? Sometimes, we have to be behind the scene to make things successful. I don't need to explain this point further. Every single participants of WCN2018 knew about my role that i've played. You don't believe, but that's a fact i haven't slept even total 9-10 hours during the whole three days event. I've worked a lot for the sake of all, and i feel proud of this.
- Secondly, I don't think consent from the team is required to use the photograph. I had an informal talk with the author and/or photographer Bijay chaurasia (talk · contribs) to use the photograph, and they don't have any problem with using their picture in our website. However, I agree that i should have given them the credit for such a wonderful photograph.
- IMO, without proper inquiry and discussion, how can you say like this,"our organization stands on a fraudulent base"?
- Let me go deeper, I am the top most contributor from Nepal, and featured by Wikimedia India. On the other hand, I represent OKFA, a registered non-profit organization, established in 2018 in Nepal. It's mission is to promote, preserve and digitize the local contents (text, picture, audio, video, statistics, and any other open content) of various languages of Nepal. What is the problem in seeking affiliation from Wikimedia Foundation as a User Group if we support the mission, and fulfill all the required requirements of it?
Although, it is not that necessary but we have removed the things for now. Since, we are behind the scene. Moreover, we have a lot to do and has many projects on the way outside Wikimedia. We will be busy until October. I am looking forward to hear from WMF and AffCom if they are willing to give us chance to work with them as a UG. That's all. Thank you. Please feel free to ask if things are still unclear to you. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 18:32, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, Tulsi Bhagat and Sanjog Dev thank you for your replies. I really appreciate your hard works and your contributions as a Wikimedian, in the Wikimedians of Nepal User Group and Maithili Wikimedians Users Group , also thanks for giving us some elementary math lectures. I do not see your declaration on your user page about your organizational affiliation on your user page User:Tulsi Bhagat and User:Sanjog.dev. We never heard about your organization during the event planning meetings and even though User:Sanjog.dev addressed the event he was not called as a representative of the organization in question. You said about transitive relations but there has to be a formal relations for claiming as an Organizer for any event. Regarding pictures we were asked for the photographs saying it'll be uploaded to Commons, we deny any other usage of our image even though your photographer allows you to, especially using it to third-party website is never agreed. Thanks for removing the photographs from the website. But call for participation form still uses this image. Since these are the claims not based on any base so that I mentioned as 'fraudulent'. सरोज कुमार ढकाल (talk) 07:09, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
- Alright, I don't want to pile on. Thank you for your further comments सरोज कुमार ढकाल. Image is now removed. Have a good day. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 12:46, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
