Hello! I did create this page to share a list of suggestion I wrote when I was contacted in order to advise on how to develop a reserach in a way that respects Wikipedia community. Perhaps it could be useful as a list of ideas for the Research Committe group. Cheers! Mayo (Lilaroja) 14:47 Nov 5th 2010.

Hello. We haven't reached consensus on the proposed (and very sound) list yet. Is there a way to stir up the discussion again, on the RCom-I and here too? I suggest that we post some links of existing completed research that has followed the protocols suggested here. Cheers - Giota (Giotita) 18.52 Nov 25 2010.

This page is obsolete

[edit]

This page predates the restructuring of the Research:Index and the Research:FAQ in particular, unless anyone objects I am going to flag it as historical. --DarTar 02:06, 14 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

By all means flag away - but please make the criteria for evaluation of ethical/unethical experiments avaialble on the new page so that they can be used in creation of new and novel experimental designs. OrenBochman (talk) 20:01, 24 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Merge to

[edit]

I suggest this should be merged and redirected to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Ethically_researching_Wikipedia --Piotrus (talk) 02:33, 30 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I agree on merging, but:
  1. the research directory is here on Meta-Wiki and it makes no sense to move content away from Meta-Wiki,
  2. the en.wiki page has a "consensus" tag which may apply or not to the content here.
The two pages have a basically empty intersection and similar number of pageviews, so I suggest instead to merge the en.wiki page into this. A redirect can be added from Ethically researching Wikipedia if title matters. --Nemo 08:19, 30 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I second both Piotrus and Nemo if that is possible ;), having just analyzed and commented in meta on a currently ongoing reasearch in enwiki. On the one hand these practices are still incomplete and obsolete here in meta after all these years, on the other: the enwiki community will always be the most active thus their version will be more "current" and thus useful and reasonable. On the third hand: we may risk imposing WEIRD values by accepting enwiki's without verification (globalization, neutralisation or whatever it is called in ethnology and metapolitics). UCoC and their impact

[edit]

I have noticed that in the 2021 version of Universal Code of Conduct there is a mention that the researchers have to abide by these.

Thus this text needs yet another update.
