Talk:Movement Strategy/Recommendations/Iteration 2/Partnerships/5

[edit]Pretty decent work overall, well done! Here's my hot take:
I certainly would object to some of the wording that makes a point for the sake of it and entirely misses the issue it addresses. For instance, Q4-1 mentions western white males as negatively impacted or succeptible to pushback, and although this has become a handy trope of what is wrong with the movement, truth is that the vast majority of these guys are users (editors), not partners; they couldn't care less about who else is in the movement bubble, as they pretty much have no skin (ah ah) in that game (unless they belong to the 20 regulars on Wikimedia-l).
The first in line that I see impacted by a shift in partnership strategies are chapters involved with "mature" languages (ie the 10-15 at the top of wikipedia.org) - not all of these are in the North, not all of them are white, and afaik a very substantial part of their staff are female.
Bottom line:
there may be an issue of loss of monopoly of our community’s
existing demographic (western white males)historic partners which could be perceived as beingdiscriminated against or being‘taken over'
Historically this is a western white male project, so the rewording both keeps that undertone yet refocuses the issue in terms of risks. Stephane (talk) 10:41, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
- I've started navigating the whole thing and I'm not even sure any more that I am commenting on an up-to-date proposal. Stephane (talk) 10:51, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
