Hooray!
Make sure to only block the part of the site that is the mirror. For instance, I blocked http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/*, but then realized they had other info on there besides wikipedia stuff, so i changed it to http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/encyclopedia/*.
Not that I'm ever going to use that other information, but I can see it... :-) - Omegatron 03:05, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- Please feel free to correct (and add to) the list here. There are many sites which are pretty much worthless but make an effort to look like an original resource on the surface, so I tended to write entire sites off quickly while making the list, to keep from wasting my time on them. -- Jeronim 11:22, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
Likewise answers.com has all kinds of useful information besides their mirror of our content. - Omegatron 17:43, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- It's probably worth listing such sites in a separate box so that people can block them or not as they wish. -- Jeronim 00:18, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
- I have added jdhodges.com, which uses Wikipedia text on about 30,000 pages where they're selling posters. The Wikipedia text is strictly search engine chum. Not sure if that should be a separate category. I have also added answers.com, but I agree that a separate box would be better. --209.202.205.1 22:15, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
Different criteria
I want to block addresses that only have mirrored wikipedia content. Others want to block sites like answers that provide other information as well. We should instead create a template for a conservative list and then append the others onto it. I'll show what I mean. — Omegatron 14:56, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
This template contains a list of addresses which only contain wikipedia content:
{{Mirror filter only wikipedia}}
This template contains a list of addresses which contain wikipedia content as well as other content:
{{Mirror filter other content}}
This list is useful for people who want to be conservative:
[CustomizeGoogle] http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/encyclopedia/*
http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/*
And this list is useful for people who want to block anything that will contain wikipedia content:
[CustomizeGoogle] http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/encyclopedia/*
http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/*
http://www.answers.com/*
http://*.opentopia.com/* http://psychcentral.com/* http://www.braindex.com/encyclopedia/*
Then both lists are copy and pastable, and both are updated when you modify one. — Omegatron 15:01, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
Arguably religiontoday.de should be added
