Add topicVotes
[edit]Explanation
[edit]The idea is that no pages will be listed, unless there's actually an article. This way, the list will work from the start. And the energy will be spent on writing, as voting takes care of the relative importance of the pages. Those who find the minipedia is biased will eventually move their votes to articles outside the biased range. The draw-back, of course, is that I would have to check the votes regularly, unless we could get someone to automate that. Aliter 21:36, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)
To Do
[edit]- Find the Wikimedia pages that help the creators of new encyclopedia and add a link to a list of small starting-point articles.
- Contact existing Wikipediae to explain they can check Minipedia to see whether they have what most people consider the most important articles.
- If this were to be used: Ask someone to automate the votes.

[edit]List and Simple
[edit]Sweet idea, but someone has already done that: There is the List of articles all languages should have and Simple wikipedia which can be used for this purpose. --Elian 03:14, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- That's exactly the problem: As far as I can see they can't. Simple is intended as complete Encyclopedia. Its articles, especially the core articles, grow to full articles, and I find the introductions of those articles often are too connected to the full text to be useful as stub articles. On the other hand, some stubs on Simple are five word stubs. As a result, the List etc. has no article base. The project set-up here does not allow that problem. If an article is voted important, by definition it's an existing article. (The List etc. also has a problem in universiality, in that several versions of the list exist. That's one reason for the voting.)
- Anyway, thanks for the comment. Regardles of whether you agree, can you be persuaded to give five minutes of writing time to the Minipedia? (And/Or, would you like to vote?) Personally, I'm now going to translate my own Minipedia:Brussels to fy:. I knew that something useful would come of this. <smiles> Aliter 00:00, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the effort. The Africa stub is great, it really helped me much at os:. The problem about the lists like List of articles all languages should have is that it's somewhat difficult to find a good stub to make it a starting point for the future greater article.
