Moving date (and possibly venue)

[edit]

This is totally only for my benefit, so feel free to say no, but would it be possible to move the date of the 50th back a week (i.e. the 16th rather than the 9th of October)? I'll be out of the country on the 8th/9th, and it'd be a bit sad for me to miss my first ever one (let alone, the 50th one)!

Also, I've been approached asking if we might want to run the meetup somewhere a bit more like a "breakout" office space, which would make it a bit more "doing" and less "social" but might be worth a go - are people interested? Happy to discuss this at meetup 49 of course, for those that don't camp out on their Meta watch-lists. :-)

I can make the 16th as well so no objection from me. Also OK with a change of venue. WereSpielChequers 13:02, 23 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Speaking as a virtual attendee, I would like to think that the regulars should decide. On the issue of venue change, I would say no, since it would be a different vibe, and therefore not a wikimeet? Gordo 13:57, 23 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
OK, well, we had five comments in favour and none against, so I've made the change with regard to the date. Let's discuss venue at London 49?

I suggested a move downstairs, to the "function room", for London Wikimeet 50 Gordo 14:57, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Possibly venue change?

[edit]

I am not sure a change is good for a celebration. The vast majority of the London Wikimeets have been in the Penderel's Oak, so it would nice to celebrate there, surely? Also, finding a new venue, new travel plans etc would not be a good thing to make the 50th go smoothly. In fact, the main page says Penderel's Oak now.... so maybe venue to be confirmed would be better? Gordo 08:38, 24 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Indeed - though I'd observe that on the matter of venue, there is confirmation bias from asking existing attendees what works. :-) Doing a different style of event might attract people we've failed to attract so far.

OK. As you know, I have expressed a preference for a later time, but meet at 1pm and not in a pub would suit me, and might suit others. I also suggest that four weeks is a short amount of time to search out, book, confirm and publicize a new venue. Any ideas? Gordo 09:56, 24 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
I certainly don't want to move the time back any later, but I'm generally open minded on a venue changing - depending on what precisely the venue will be. CT Cooper · talk 10:42, 24 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I agree with that. Meet at 1pm for sure. Gordo 10:52, 24 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
What sort of event are you thinking about, and what sort of audience do you think it might attract? I would expect that to determine which location would be most appropriate (whether it's a room in an office environment [either internet-connected or otherwise], cultural institution, university, tourist destination, boat on the Thames, ...). I wouldn't expect there to be any issue with WMUK funding (or finding a sponsor for) the hiring of an alternative location if requested to for a good reason. How about booking the basement room at Penderel's Oak, which the manager will probably give out for free? Gordo 08:21, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
I heard the manager discussing this with someone, and it is certainly a possibility. He didn't mention cost - it could be free, but he was thinking of a lot of customers (~30 to 100). CT Cooper · talk 20:34, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Depends what is on offer. Can they open the room without opening the bar? Suggest a formal session for say an hour or two, then close and go back upstairs? Gordo 08:03, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
See below. WMUK have "bagged" the room but it should be available for other uses as we may only need it for a hour or so Victuallers 12:34, 24 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
That's good! Well done! VENUE-- Gordo 09:13, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Days to London 50

[edit]

What bit of code/template is it that controls the "Days to London 50" image? It's two days out according to my reckoning. -- 10:30, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Outreach event at RISC OS computer show, Feltham, Sat 29 Oct 2011

[edit]

Hi. In connection with attendance at the Wakefield RISC OS show in April 2011, WikiProject RISC OS will be at the RISC OS London Show on Sat 29 Oct 2011.

If anyone would like to assist or is otherwise curious, please either let the project know or reply here. There's just about time to get a Geonotice organised too, although I accept that this is obviously a niche topic interest. Thanks for reading. --Trevj 13:35, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
