Tasks

• Start a project page on Meta for all activities scheduled around the edit-a-thon. For example, any offline events, meetups, translation drives of articles that are already up. Make different sections for different languages.

I agree. Let's not centralise it. Let's keep it as open as possible and try to get as many women [from previous Women's academies/workshops as well as existing editors] to edit it over a period of time. ----Rsrikanth05 (talk) 18:57, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Glad that this is gaining momentum. Will try to also involve Wikimedians in Indian languages to do their bit. Will also inform Prof. Ramakrishna Ramaswamy (currently University of Hyderabad) about this. He will be thrilled to see that we took this up, as he was one of the instrumental persons for the publication of Lilavati's Daughters. Agreed that we don't not need to centralise this. Communities may organise an offline component to the edit-a-thon locally, if they so wish. As for the timing, I suggest the entire months of October and November, which will take care of the translations as well, once the articles are no longer stubs. Also, the longer time frame means fewer edit conflicts and more content creation. I have personally found it is especially difficult to collect reliable and usable secondary sources for citations on content related to women and Indians, and more so Indian women. We would need more time to find refs and also peripheral content such as photos and manuscripts. -- Rohini (talk) 08:19, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Ideas?

• Do an edit-a-thon in the English and Indic language (at least in the language of the state from where the scientist came)

• Might sound far fetched, but recently, several Asian Wikimedia Chapters agreed to do a project where each country translates an article about another country into it's own language, perhaps we could get this article translated into other Asian languages as well? ----Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:00, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

• Let's create a list of all the Women Scientists mentioned in the book and ensure that they will be automatically struck off as and when an article gets created on EN WP. I second Pradeep's idea of starting with Wikidata. @ Srikanth, let's put up a page for this event the way we had done for Internal Women's History Month and international language translation to one of the tasks. -- Rohini (talk) 08:12, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

• If people use the book (Lilavati's Daughters' as the sole secondary source, the articles are likely to be deleted. We need more than one reliable and secondary source. I suggest we ask people to decided which article(s) they are going to work on and start looking for sources. Also, only a few women profiled in the book are no more. People could visit the women profiled, take a photo for the biography, and interview them about the kind of work by/ about them that could be used to write the articles. These women may also be able to give old photographs of themselves (somebody receiving an award or something like that.) -- Rohini (talk) 08:11, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Resmivava it is better to not create a new stub article. If you need more time, you can try working on the article in your sandbox and then move it to article namespace. In the meanwhile you can indicate in the project page that you are working on the article against the Scientist's name. Try creating Your sandbox here. Interviewing the Scientist

Following User:Rohini's suggestion I approached Prof. Ramakrishna Ramaswamy (one of the authors of Lilavati's Daughters, a Scientist and currently the VC of University of Hyderabad) for help in reaching out to the scientists to interview them about their work and to collect old photographs to go into the articles. He has agreed to help in giving the details and also in spreading the word about this project. For reasons of privacy it will not be possible to publish their contact details here.
