[edit]- HOW TO ORGANISE AN ONLINE COLLABORATION ON A WIKIMEDIA PROJECT
The online collaboration shown in the presentation was the Tag & Assess 2012, conducted by the Indian community in March-May 2012, on WikiProject India, on English Wikipedia.
- GENERAL PLANNING OF AN ONLINE COLLABORATION
- What is the purpose of the online collaboration?
- Which Wikimedia Project will you use for this?
- Which community will you get your volunteers from?
- What are their motivations/rewards?
- DETAILED PLANNING OF THE DRIVE
- Plan how the event will be conducted broadly.
- Get publicity, including social media, to announce.
- Aim - what is the aim of the drive? E.g. get students to learn how to create articles, to get people to donate maximum images, etc.
- Results, Endpoint. When will the drive be considered complete? At a date, say 01 September - 30 September? If some landmark is reached, e.g. 500 images added to Wikimedia Commons?
- Make the pages - example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Assessment/Tag_%26_Assess_2012 (start simple, add details as the need arises)
- How the participants will work: e.g. it could be “login to Commons, add images using the Upload Wizard, add hashtag in the edit summary, update their tally on the project page.”
- Guides/FAQ for Particiapants: Prepare these. Many students/volunteers will need guidance. Here is an example ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Assessment/Tag_%26_Assess_2012/Guide_-_Part_1 )
- Rewards & Recognition: decide this carefully. It need not be material, it could be announcement, felicitation, awarding online barnstars, given special access to a Museum, etc.
- Actually Conduct of the event
- Completion activities (announcements, rewards, announce the competition is closed on the Wikipedia pages.
