This is just a summary of my personal thoughts on the matter. We should not let such things have a chilling effect on our work, but must be aware of them. –SJ talk 07:27, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- I agree we do not want to have these regulations get in the way of doing good work, but is important to have a discussion on how any entity receiving money from the Wikimedia Foundation is going to ensure that funding is not going to restricted entities or individuals.Gbyrd (talk) 22:42, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Impact
[edit][1]. Can WMF log complaints somewhere when this impairs our volunteers? --Nemo 11:13, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
- Complaints can be sent to me. Gbyrd (talk) 15:29, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, I was unclear. I meant "complaints" from WMF about the USA law. So that the executive/legislative power is at least formally aware of the consequences of its choices. --Nemo 23:07, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
- WMF is not currently engaging in any type of advocacy or lobbying work for or against any existing laws or regulations. Are you aware of any cases where the current laws or Executive Order 13224 has kept us from supporting our volunteers or a community project? Gbyrd (talk) 23:11, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
- Providing data/information is not lobbying. I may be aware or not of specific cases but I'm not going to waste my time collecting them if there is no way for them to be reported to those who have a use for the information (i.e. the authorities). --Nemo 14:55, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
- If you do find a specific case, please let me know as I want to verify that the issue is related to US laws or regulations and not other issues. Even if it is related to US laws and regulations, once I have the specifics, I can get expert advice to see if there is an exemption that can be utilized to provide support to a volunteer or community project in an otherwise restricted country.Gbyrd (talk) 16:28, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
