Structure?

[edit]

It is suggested that Information Para to be followed by Three options namely General, Technical and Suggessions. Clicking on the option to redirect to

a. Indic Language Help Desk/General
b. Indic Language Help Desk/Technical
c. Indic Language Help Desk/Suggessions
d. Indic Language Help Desk/Resource
d. Indic Language Help Desk/Graphics
e. Indic Language Help Desk/Events

Each of the above page to provide a box where in Issue/Question/Request can be typed. There will be drop down selection for "Wiki project" Viz. Wikipedia, Wikisource etc. The box may have a submit button. upon pressing the same the matter in the box may be posted below as Village Pump.

  • Support Support- Indic Language Help Desk. So there should be a total 4 pages, right. One main page, which have all description of the project, what this project aim to be and have general FAQ. General page for solving general issues, Technical for technical issues, Suggestions for providing the suggestions to improve wiki projects in India. Apart from this Statistics page to monitor the stats of regional contents is also essential. And each of the above pages must also have a provision to translate to Indian regional language as well.--Jinoytommanjaly (talk) 04:33, 4 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Support- I strongly support this idea of having a help page for Indic languages, but rather than calling it a help desk we should have some Program Name for this. I agree with the structure but we can have some additional sections and sub-sections because this portal will not only provide support in online matters but also in offline matters. We should have the page in all the different Indic languages, but the submissions must come to a central page.- Manavpreet Kaur (talk) 06:55, 4 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Discussion

[edit]

@Sushant savla: Wonderful work Sushant, I'm glad to see this. I'm good with the first two points, I request you to explain a bit more about the third one i.e. "Suggestions". Apart from that, I don't really feel that we should use the word "complaint", because we want it to be a cross-community collaboration platform, rather just a complaint forum. Regards, KCVelaga (talkmail) 08:40, 8 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

This section will include suggestions, ideas, practices that could be implemented on Indic-Wikis. This may include good practices followed on other world communities or other new ideas. Matters which are not problem, Not a support request; could be added here. This would be forum for all Indic-Wikipedian to opine their view on idea suggested.
With regard to complaint, My bad, It should be "Issue" or "Matter" or "Request" or " Question", I Did not mean complaint. correcting the same.--Sushant savla (talk) 04:15, 9 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Sushant savla: Sounds good, how do we proceed with this now? I think that we should open it for comments to the community, may be notify the mailing lists. Regards, KCVelaga (talkmail) 10:45, 11 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
There are two options. (a) First create a basic structure based on our discussions and then invite community to start discussion. (b) First Invite communities and then start making main page. Lets see what Manav and Jinoy have to say. My choice is option (a). The reason being, Lets do something and then go public. for this we mightneed help of some html expert, who can add colour, sizes to the text. In lines of [[1]] I liked the heading and 3 section there.
In respect of Stats Module, I would like to suggest that lets develop that module in Phase II. The Reason being, 1. First lets see how successfull this program becomes. The stats module will demand more time and energy. Let's invest resources in stats, once the program starts rolling. Moreover, as on now, we do not have any volunteer to keep it up to date and Stats Version 2 is under development.
Yes, we can start building up the basic structure of articles first and then invite other community members. If required, we can change the structure there after. Stats page is not required in first phase because we have no articles created as of collaboration. We can work on it behind and seek help of some Tech guys. We can have an option/page for Requesting articles to be created in other indic languages. If a community thinks a article (notable in their community) must be created in other indic languages, the community can request the articles in that page. The article must also have a page in English Wikipedia. So that other community members can create the same in their language wiki.-Jinoytommanjaly (talk) 04:35, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
I believe we should first decide what aspects we wish to cover and the content we wish to keep on this portal e.g. guidelines for beginners, working modules, policies, etc. In addition to this I think we should have a policy discussion platform here so that in case we have some conflict in beliefs with En Wiki, we can discuss and resolve the same here on this portal. Lets focus on the content we can add and later we'll see for which aspect we need to involve Tech Guys. Lets start by adding the very basics on the portal.-Manavpreet Kaur (talk) 22:45, 22 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

  1. How about having a symbol? With Symbol people can Relate Faster.
  2. Some Small Linear Banner on the top of the page

Revamping the help desk

[edit]

@Manavpreet Kaur, Sushant savla, Tito (CIS-A2K), and Jinoytommanjaly: Hello all, we started this imitative long back at WAT 2018 in Ranchi, but we did not get much time to make this working. I am interested to take this forward with the following changes and additions,

  • Change of Name to "Indian Wikimedia Desk" "Indian Wikimedias Coordination Desk" (this is definitely much more than a "help" platform")
  • One of the objectives of Wikigraphists Bootcamp is to created a request page for Indian communities, create a Centralised Graphics Lab for Indian Wikimedia communities
  • Establish a Resource Exchange page (cross-wiki).
  • Link to Indic-TechCom from here.
  • Make this page as a central on-Wiki notification centre related to Indian Wikimedia communities.
  • Discuss any issues relating to cross-wiki initiatives or collaborations.

I am proposing these changes because; till date, all the Indian communities do not have any common platform for discussion (on-Wiki). Although we have the national mailing list, it is not an organised platform. Though the initial intention of this platform is for discussions related to policy, I think that would be so limited to pursue, and we might not have much activity. So I believe adding a graphics lab and resource exchange page will be more useful. In addition to that we have a notification centre for notifications, and of course a general discussion page. This is my opinion, I would like to hear your thoughts on this, and open it for discussion with the rest of the community. KCVelaga (talk) 11:41, 13 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Support Support Technical Page should be redirect to Indic-TechCom.--Jayprakash >>> Talk 23:10, 13 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Good Suggestions indeed, we may surely include the Graphic Requests and Resource exchange. Technical support is meant for Soft tech issues,Indic-TechCom can be linked here. I have one more suggession, one tab may be devoted to post about Events such as local training sessions etc.--Sushant savla (talk) 11:26, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Support Support I liked your suggestions and agree with your proposal.-Manavpreet Kaur (talk) 15:01, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Support Support i agree with your this good proposal. -J. Ansari Talk 15:21, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Support Support Liked the new name, 'Indian Wikimedias Coordination Desk'. Surely all the Indian communities will get support from each and every community if a common platform is available under centralised platform. I am sure about the 'SVG Translation Campaign 2019' will boost up the need for graphics lab for Indian Wikimedia communities. -Jinoytommanjaly (talk) 19:10, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Support Support This will be an ideal platform for all kinds of exchange between different Indic language communities, like, graphics requests, resource exchange etc. -- Shypoetess (talk) 12:52, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
