Submission of grant application for Wiki Loves Folklore and Feminism and Folklore 2025

[edit]

I have decided that we move out of the WhatsApp which we're much comfortable with to learning how to do the discussions here on meta. It's all about Wiki Loves Folklore and Feminism and Folklore. s Feminism and Folklore is an annual international writing contest held on Wikipedia during February and March. It aims to document folk cultures and women in folklore worldwide, complementing the Wiki Loves Folklore (WLF) photography campaign on Wikimedia Commons. This multilingual project, running since 2019, fosters collaboration across languages and Wikimedia platforms, enriching content about human cultural diversity with a focus on closing the gender gap. Participants contribute articles on topics like festivals, dances, cuisine, and clothing, all aligning with the themes of folk culture and gender representation. By documenting intangible cultural heritage, the project promotes intercultural dialogue, mutual respect, and knowledge-sharing for global audiences. What are your thoughts on that and what can we do collaboratively and effectively to implement the project when accepted? Alhassan Mohammed Awal (talk) 20:14, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

I it is nice proposal for me especially when it has to do with activities around bridging the gender gaps. The only thing I particularly need as new Wikimedian is training on how I can write the articles. As a female, I would like to contribute much in the process of bringing the information gap for our gender. I suggest one or two physical workshops where we can have direct interactions and to practice under the direct guidance of the facilitators before the competition starts. This is a very good initiative that can bring a lot of us together for the purpose of carrying out Wikimedia activities in the area of contributing photos and not just any photo but those that represent and folk cultural activities. That is so refreshing and we can’t wait to showcase our folk cultures and traditions to the rest of the world and preserving them on the free site, Wikimedia commons. The proposal is also very important as it seeks to contribute content about females in folk activities as part of efforts by the world in general to bridge the gender digital divide between males and females. I think it aligns so well with the Wikimedia foundation’s mission for equity, diversity and inclusivity, so that there is a balance between all genders on the Wikimedia spaces.
