Add topicInclusion of Southern Hemisphere GLAM Institutions in Feedback Process
[edit]Hi there,
I am an employee from Tāmaki Paenga Hira | Auckland War Memorial Museum, you can see some of the projects we have been working on at our project page.
We are currently in the midst of scoping out a project to upload 100,000+ images in a bulk upload. We would be keen to contribute to the feedback gathered, but I can see that plans for feedback sessions seem to be mostly confined to locations/timezones in Europe. We believe that our experience as a GLAM institution trying to work with the current tools available, along with our attempts at trouble-shooting using existing support for heritage/GLAM institutions would be valuable in this discussion. Additionally, our interactions with the Wikipedia User community while undergoing administrative processes such as removals to correct mistakes has been slightly discouraging as a GLAM institution with a duty of care to culturally significant and sensitive data.
If there could be an opportunity for GLAM institutions in the Pacific to be included in this report, it would be much appreciated on our end. Dactylantha (talk) 00:24, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Wonderful! I would be very glad to talk about your workflow and needs! I will email you and find out some ways to connect. - Fuzheado (talk) 18:01, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
Possible user matrix
[edit]Here's a draft of some possible users we are considering profiling. This will be further informed by a survey to be sent out which will further capture user experiences we can expand on. - Fuzheado (talk) 15:11, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
User story: photo uploader at events
[edit]I'll continue to document user stories encountered during our research. Here is one from covering events from the perspective of a photographer capturing portrait photos to contribute to Commons, and needing to enrich the metadata along the way:

Wikimedia Hackathon session
[edit]I will plan to be at the Wikimedia Hackathon 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia (May 4-5) and the following AI Sauna in Helsinki, Finland (May 6-7). A main goal in Tallinn is to engage the technical community in a conversation around GLAM CSI, so I have created this Phabricator ticket as part of Hackathon - task T360474. I encourage folks to subscribe to that task, even if they're not going. I'll repeat the text here:
In 2024, we launched the GLAM CSI project to assess the contribution pipeline in the Wikimedia technical infrastructure for supporting cultural and heritage partnerships and projects.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM_CSI
A major end goal is to document user stories of those in the GLAM-Wiki and OpenGLAM sector and what technical needs and challenges they face when looking to contribute and engage with the Wikimedia ecosystem. This session presents the project and its approach to documenting user stories of Hackathon attendees, from Commons contribution at scale to enriching metadata to synchronizing Wikidata via roundtripping to supporting new file formats.
