One not to quote[edit]

Great messages, thanks for that. But probably best not to post the one that contains "People are always told not to reference Wikipedia but all the information on Wikipedia has to be cited!" Republishing information that you know not to be true is one of the roots of fake news. WereSpielChequers (talk) 19:52, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

I know what you're getting at, but I think we should take the comments in stride. I got a chuckle out of some of them. In context it's understood that these are individual donor responses. We can't expect everyone to understand the magic that happens here. :) CKoerner (WMF) (talk) 18:41, 18 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yet when we choose which messages to publish, especially to publish without comment, we are putting a WMF endorsement on them. One of the tactics of fake news is to use Vox Pops and quotes to give plausible deniability when repeating things we know to be untrue. It really is unethical for the WMF to knowingly repeat something false, especially something false about part of the WMF. WereSpielChequers (talk) 09:34, 23 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
