Talk:Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Hub
Add topicGood idea
[edit]DEI is a great concept to apply to Wikimedia community governance. I am at a university where we have adopted DEI philosophies and I felt that the culture change was popular with everyone, easy to adopt, and gave quick results. It did cost money and was not something that we could have organized as an office side project, so we had to hire staff for the purpose of completing the needed work. I think it is time for Wikimedia investment in this value, and if we had a DEI hub, and the Wikimedia community actually was able to set the agenda and approve goals, then I think the Wikimedia Movement would benefit. - Thank you @Bluerasberry: I am pleased to read what you wrote (especially "easy to adopt, and gave quick results"), as I feared this "united Wikimedia movement for diversity" could seem a little bit utopic or idealistic. I just added the slides I prepared for both today SWAN meetings and the minutes from our first meeting on November 23th. Can you please take a look and say what do you think about it? I will also extend this page with more input on what this hub's idea is.--Camelia (talk) 18:58, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
Personal observations
[edit]Personal observations: after essentially two participated meetings ([1 (23 Nov 2021)], [2 (30 Nov 2021)]) and despite the interest of all at the beginning in the - so extended - diversity topic, among active people in the hub/TG channel, there are still different opinions on priorities, approach, and sometimes even way of seeing things. No consensus on what and how to go forward. It seems many are waiting to see how things evolve. --Camelia (talk) 17:44, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for sharing your observations, Camelia! Do you think it makes sense to use this network as a place to share examples of how these topics are implemented on a local and/or regional level? I think diversity, equity and inclusion are topics that everyone should include in their activities and should not be necessarily outsourced to a hub. BR, Braveheart (talk) 16:26, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
