Talk:Copyediting
Add topicAfter a few days of becoming familiar with Wikipedia, starting a discussion thread seemed the most appropriate venue for my need for clarification.
Is this request for copyeditors and proofreaders a request for employees in a paid position?
- Indeed not! It is a request for people int'rested in tranining themselves to be more expert in copyediting and proofreading, and an encouragement for people to help build a cross-language project for focused, professional-level editing (on top of the standard mix of serious and casual editing that is the natural process of artic development). For instance, the current understanding of punctuation usage on WP (and on Meta in particular) is atrocious, and can only be rectified through devoted educational outreach. +sj+ 21:48, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I ask because it seems that Meta-Wiki is the most central guiding network within Wikipedia. Secondly, I ask myself, why would this page exist at all if its intention was not to solicit paid help, since it seems that a huge part of the more general Wikipedia community is involved in editing.
I myself am not interested in editing in a paid capacity, but by my nature, edit things as I go. My sister, on the other hand, is interested in a job as a copy-editor. I am seeking clarification before I tell her about this page.
Thanks, plantwater
Thanks for mentioning your interest, however. You might add yourself to one of these lists only as an indication of your editing interest and awareness of meta. You seem to understand grammar and punctuation, which already puts you above average... +sj+
Could someone explain what is being requested, suggested or proposed here? It seems very vague. --207.253.109.141 23:47, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Hi, 207. Both this and the Translation effort aim to identify editors who are interested and skilled in specific areas. The goal is to then be able to take a body of articles -- for instance, a list of articles that should be in every language wikipedia -- and efficiently divide the work of copyediting, translating, and proofreading (generally in that order). Having a list of interested editors will also be helpful once we start organized training to help people get better at these tasks. +sj+ 18:38, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I just wanted to note that I speak formal/colloquial English fluently, and Latin American Spanish semi-fluently as well. I'm quite interested in both positions. Yurfxrendenmein 17:54, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I would be interested in copyediting for you. Fromt he discussions above I fully understand that it is unpaid work, but I am very interested nevertheless and would enjoy improving my own skills in this area. I am fluent in English, not American English, although I assume spelling variations would be corrected by the proof-readers. I just hope that I have time to participate! Kelly M
