Moldova

[edit]

I suggest including Moldova in the import as well. I know User:Gikü has the list of monuments with the proper permissions from the official organization handling the monuments and I can help with the language-specific expertise.--Strainu (talk) 12:40, 1 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

That is very interesting Strainu! Thank you for the suggestion and the offer to help! John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 17:58, 13 April 2016 (UTC) updated 18:02, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Romania

[edit]

What exactly do you have in plan for Romania? AFAIK, Romania is already in the monuments database.--Strainu (talk) 12:40, 1 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

No exact plans yet for Romania. The countries that has been added are the ones that UNESCO believe have a lot of immovable cultural heritage in danger. If Romania would be included, the aim would be to update the database with new data (if such data exists). John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 18:01, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Definition of 'cultural heritage'

[edit]

Hello, for the purposes of COH what counts as 'cultural heritage'? Are we focussing on buildings and archaeological sites, hence the role of the WLM database? I ask because 'cultural heritage' can have a very broad meaning (Historic England uses "Inherited assets which people identify and value as a reflection and expression of their evolving knowledge, beliefs and traditions, and of their understanding of the beliefs and traditions of others") and that would influence what datasets are eligible for inclusion. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 10:10, 17 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Richard! Good question. We focus on immovable cultural heritage. I have tried to clarify that in the texts now. Best, John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 10:32, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

United Kingdom

[edit]

In 2014 Magnus Manske created items on Wikidata for scheduled monuments and a selection of the most important listed buildings in England. These cover historic sites - both buildings and buried remains - which are protected by law. There are various categories of listed building based on the significance of the structure. With roughly half a million in the UK it was decided to important the top two tiers (about 10%).

In 2016 Historic England's National Register for Listed Buildings was imported. This covered the remaining listed buildings in England (Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are separate).

All this was done for Wiki Loves Monuments. The sites can be explored through https://tools.wmflabs.org/wlmuk/index_wd.html Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 13:43, 2 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Do they have coordinates on Wikidata? I ask because of toollabs:wiki-needs-pictures. --Nemo 22:13, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Nemo bis: They do, here is an example from the August 2016 import. The buildings are showing up on the WLM map as expected but I'm not sure why they're not showing up on the tool you linked to. How does the wiki-needs-pictures tool work, is it based on a Wikidata query? Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 15:30, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yes, a SPARQL query. It seems to be restricted to d:Q811979 and maybe it's not considering subclasses? I'll check and continue there. Nemo 15:42, 5 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wellcome - pictures of sites from around the world

[edit]

Hello! Wasn't sure of the best place to mention this, so I'll put it here... There are lots of images of buildings and monuments in the Wellcome's collections, that have already been uploaded to Commons (a search using the terms Wellcome images building shows up just over 1000, almost all of which are actual buildings rather than invented illustrations). However, most of them are poorly categorised and/or described, so they might not be properly linked with the places that they depict. I'd really appreciate any help with categorisation so that they can be used in the Connected Open Heritage project, it would be great if the images were better used! CyArk

[edit]

I added CyArk to the GLAM list. User:Harej was our contact, although it is stale. Slowking4 (talk) 19:40, 28 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Follow-ups?

[edit]

Where there any follow-ups? --10:59, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

This was mine :-) So half a year later - good thing I saw you on HUBs meeting John Andersson (WMSE) to remember... any Follow-ups planned? Zblace (talk) 16:31, 31 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
