[edit]

Although this is something quite useful I am afraid it is outside of scope for the community wishlist as it requires a Manual of Style changes. As every community or wikiproject is unique and independent we should not interfere with this right in way of dictating how to formulate the first line in a biography entry. Different projects have different rules, just to list some:

  • enwiki: John Smith (1500, 1600) was an English painter
  • some other wiki: John Smith, English painter, * 1500, † 1600
  • yet another wiki: John Smith (* 1500, † 1600), English painter

We can see there are multiple styles to formulating the main biographical data. I think it's best for admins/community wishlist maintainers to close down this idea as invalid due to reasons provided above. Best regards, A09|(pogovor) 18:15, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I agree with that: this is not something that can be forced over the Manyal of Style. You should discuss that on your home wiki, as rules are different per wiki. Theklan (talk) 06:55, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, @BMJ-pdx - I agree this wish is outside the bounds of what we can achieve through the community wishlist, and will be archiving this wish. JWheeler-WMF (talk) 17:09, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@BMJ-pdx, this could be a valid wish but just misunderstood. What previews are you talking about? Do you have popups enabled in your preferences? Maybe you could do a screenshot of the problem. I can see that reducing clutter of extended birth date info in popups would be beneficial, and maybe there is a technical solution thst doesn't involve changing the articles themselves and changing the Manual of Style.
