Hi @Keith D It sounds like you're having trouble with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Routemap and having to mess with syntax to properly render a route diagram. Is that right?

This does sound quite specific, and I wonder if there's an underlying bit of tech or product improvement that may improve more than just this type of template. JWheeler-WMF (talk) 21:36, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello, you are correct with the assumption that to get a correctly rendered route diagram is difficult for those who do not do these on a regular basis. If there is something that could be done to allow this to be simpler and could be used more widely then that would be great. The English Wikipedia changed from using {{BS-map}} templates to the Lua-based {{Routemap}}, if a solution could be found that makes things easier than may be it could be deployed across all wikis. Thanks @Keith D - wondering if anyone else has similar use cases to route diagrams, where creating an image is hard. Perhaps the wishes relating to SVG creation is somewhat similar? Community Wishlist/Wishes/Make it easier to templatize SVGs JWheeler-WMF (talk) 14:50, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

I thought I would add an example: w:Template:Channel Tunnel RDT (do editors really create that source code!?) As far as I can tell it can only be used on English Wikipedia, the ability to host on Commons with translated labels would be powerful. Commander Keane (talk) 02:44, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
