No easy way in source mode?

[edit]

I'm satisfied with the "Search and replace" function on the tab "Advanced", which supports regex, but what do you mean by "easy way"? Tmv (talk) 04:40, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you @Cremastra - could you give an example where you tried to use a Find and Replace function? JWheeler-WMF (talk) 15:43, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am similarly confused by this proposal. There's some weird behavior sometimes where closing the window on iPad jumps the cursor back to the start of the text area, but other than that it's pretty easy. Aaron Liu (talk) 16:16, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I guess what I mean by "easy way" is to make Search and Replace easier to find, and to appear like it does in the VE – not a popup that obstructs the content. IN source mode, while the actual functionality is fine, it's hiding way off to the side separate from all the other tools in a submenu, which isn't really helpful unless you're very determinedly looking for it. 🌺 Cremastra (talk) 23:32, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Have you tried the 2017 editor? Nardog (talk) 06:21, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't like the 2017 editor; it's much slower than the 2010 one and is pretty sluggish. Aaron Liu (talk) 14:35, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm asking the proposer. Nardog (talk) 14:58, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
This is a community wishlist, and I'm expressing my personal opinion as to why we should proceed with adding this to the 2010 editor. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:23, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean by "search mode"? Nardog (talk) 06:32, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Probably a typo that meant "Advanced" Aaron Liu (talk) 14:35, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
That still wouldn't make sense. Please refrain from injecting unprompted speculations when the person being asked can answer straight away. Nardog (talk) 15:00, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
JWheeler has changed it to "source mode". Aaron Liu (talk) 15:18, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Cremastra: Please confirm whether that is indeed what you meant. So you find the find-and-replace feature okay, and your issue solely lies with the fact it's hard to locate it on the toolbar? Nardog (talk) 15:28, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
and to appear like it does in the VE – not a popup that obstructs the content Aaron Liu (talk) 15:30, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes. It is hidden and obstructs the content. My wish is that this be improved and wider-ranging find-and-replace tools are available to more editors. 🌺 Cremastra (talk) 22:58, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Cremastra If you use WikiEditor (also known as the 2010 editor, or the "Enable the editing toolbar" option in your editing preferences), along with CodeMirror, you can look forward to phab:T371436 which will soon bring a find/replace panel that doesn't obstruct the content. See the example screenshot at phab:F57077288. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 18:18, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll look into this, thanks. 🌺 Cremastra (talk) 18:35, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
