Hey @Lvova - I was looking at this wish and saw that on Commons, users are able to find a link to a PDF.

For example: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Postcard_of_San_Antonio,_Texas,_Carnegie_Library_-_DPLA_-_a1d54a501656ef5850e45483aff8bdfb.pdf

Has a link to "Use this file", which opens a popup with a URL, embed link, and file URL: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Postcard_of_San_Antonio,_Texas,_Carnegie_Library_-_DPLA_-_a1d54a501656ef5850e45483aff8bdfb.pdf

Is this satisfying your wish, or are we missing something? JWheeler-WMF (talk) 19:30, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately absolutely not. Let me show you examples. For example, here we can see the code * [https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Биографический_словарь_ИСПбУ-1.pdf&page=246 Дорн, Рудольф Борисович] // Биографический словарь профессоров и преподавателей императорского С. -Петербургского университета… — {{СПб.}}: Типография и литография Б. М. Вольфа, 1896. — Т. I. — С. 239.. It is a usual outside link. I can make this link internal (File:Биографический_словарь_ИСПбУ-1.pdf), but then I will lose the page from an adress. I can also use the code like [[File:Вейсман_А.Д._Греческо-русский_словарь.djvu|100px|page=272]], so the result will be
but the communnity is against it, because the image should't be in the source section. But it's impossible to use [[:File:Вейсман_А.Д._Греческо-русский_словарь.djvu|page=272|Биографический словарь профессоров и преподавателей императорского С. -Петербургского университета]]: page=272|Биографический словарь профессоров и преподавателей императорского С. -Петербургского университета -- doesn't work normally, as you can see (and I still believe that it's a bug, not a request for a new feature, as another user changed).
