Seems valuable

[edit]

It seems costly but valuable to improve the existing translation tool; or if it has serious design flaws, to create a new one. A large fraction of the articles in other languages come from translations. I also waste some time with translations to French because the tool doesn't format the text according to the French Wikipedia's conventions, sometimes bugs, makes useless suggestions, and doesn't format references ideally. Fixing these would be a time-saver for a lot of editors and significantly improve non-English articles. Additionally, automated translation is roughly human-level now, especially when done by LLMs, which better understand context, so perhaps we could automate translation more heavily, to reduce as much as possible the time it takes to translate an article. Might be also interesting to have a more efficient way to complete a partial or outdated translation (part of the translated articles are stubs, or derived from old English versions), if you have an idea of how to implement it. What you and V.B.Speranza said would all be addressed if this was implemented: Community Wishlist/Wishes/Wikipedia Machine Translation Project. Prototyperspective (talk) 11:15, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I subscribe to Alenoach's idea! V.B.Speranza (talk) 19:27, 28 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
