Revision branching

[edit]

@Dinoguy1000 So you want git. To clarify, do you want the entire revision system of Mediawiki to support revision branching for any type of content, or do you want specifically technical content to support it, or have the option of some of the technical pages to support this (much as you can change the content model of individual pages) ?

I suppose I do want git, more or less. I was already aware of similar feature requests for CSS/JS pages (and I suppose, JSON, now that we have those).
I personally don't see much motivation to support this in articles (though I can certainly see some arguments for it regardless); the only area I'm interested in here is technical spaces (templates/modules/CSS/JS/JSON), and even there my main motivation is encouraging good (or at least better) development practices without requiring use of an external repository and without potentially clobbering a wiki's job queue. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 10:25, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
A dedicated interface for GFDL-compliant history attribution when merging or splitting, which is currently done in summaries or on talk pages, is a potential use case for this in articles. Nardog (talk) 11:20, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
