Community Wishlist/Wishes/Link "diff" and "hist" for category changes on Watchlist RecentChanges - Good idea.
Community Wishlist/Wishes/Partial revert undo - Having to partially revert is pretty rare and it doesn't cost much time. This would not make any difference to most of our viewers and users.
Community Wishlist/Wishes/Make the pending changes interface better - (2) The CSS issue costs a couple of minutes. (1) is very difficult and there are other areas where dev time is far more needed (sorry pending changes reviewers)
Community Wishlist/Wishes/Mark pages recreated at the already deleted title - should be pretty easy to write a bot for that. Dev time is scarce (for reasons beyond my understanding)
Community Wishlist/Wishes/Massen-Adminaktionen/en - This would save a tiny group of people a small amount of time.
Community Wishlist/Wishes/Stewardship Needed for Adiutor MediaWiki Extension - yet another UI bolted onto the old MediaWiki interface. Appears to be inferior to TWINKLE. Polygnotus (talk) 23:14, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Suggest removing "citation needed"
[edit]From personal experience on Wikipedia adding the "citation needed" should not be encouraged as a repetitive task. I didn't see it in any of the wishes either.
Ideally the content needs careful evaluation before "citation needed" is added, particularly a page history search to see if the material was previously cited. It seems after the tag has existed for a while (encouraged by bots tagging the age of the tag) editors feel entitled to remove valid information in a careless manor.
A button for deletion is fine as a repetitive task, the action goes through admin moderation. Commander Keane (talk) 19:35, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

- I support removing that part but only because none of the wishes is about or including that. Prototyperspective (talk) 13:38, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
Potential wish to add
[edit]This focus area is a bit confusing to me, but a potential wish to add is Gender marking in job titles tool (currently archived). The wish seems to be wanting a find and replace tool with editor oversight over each change, with a nice accessible interface. Although targeted at Russian Wikipedia (this gender issue appears alongside "don't use profanity" in the guideline) this tool would have wider implications. Commander Keane (talk) 19:47, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's archived and I think for good enough reason. A broader wish could be created separately that is about what you described. Prototyperspective (talk) 13:39, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
Wish completed - to be deployed in January
[edit]@Sohom Datta, Matěj Suchánek, Pppery, James3141592, Goombiis, Mrfoogles, HouseBlaster, 2NumForIce, Aaron Liu, Omnilaika02, Jules*, Polygnotus, Hakimi97, Shizhao, Labdajiwa, Amorymeltzer, Alachuckthebuck, Nux, WikiBayer, MER-C, Plantaest, and Hári Zalán:
Hi all - just wanted to post a quick update that my team picked up one of the wishes in this focus area and have completed work on it. The wish is Mark pages recreated at the already deleted title (T56145) and we have implemented this as a new tag, which can be filtered on in RecentChanges, the page creation log, and NewPages. It is added when a page is created, and a non-suppressed page was previously deleted at the same title. This should help you identify when a newly created page needs a closer look. Given the proximity to the US holidays later this month, we're going to hold off on deploying this new tag until early January, but I've shared a screenshot here of what it looks like! If you have any thoughts or questions please let me know. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:39, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Samwalton9 (WMF): Please post a message on en:Wikipedia_talk:New_pages_patrol/Reviewers. Many of the new page reviewers don't have this page watchlisted. Thank you! Polygnotus (talk) 13:46, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Polygnotus I believe that PageTriage, which en.wiki's NPP folks use, already has this feature. I did just file a task to replace that feature with the core one (T382067), but it may not be specifically useful to call this out on that page. What do you think? Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:56, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Would it make sense to also tag pages if a draft with the same name exists? This is sometimes caused by crossnamespace copy-paste jobs which then have to be histmerged. Polygnotus (talk) 13:50, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Polygnotus I think that's a nice idea. Would you be happy filing a Phabricator ticket to describe this, or shall I? Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:56, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- You are probably more experienced with filing tickets and tagging them correctly and all that Polygnotus (talk) 14:00, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Polygnotus I filed a brief ticket at T382073 :) Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 14:49, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I was recently messing about with quarry:query/88541 and quarry:query/88540. When and if I find some time I may write a program that checks the Levenshtein distance between a draft and an article with the same title (after stripping out draft-specific templates). - @Samwalton9 (WMF): I think this feature is useful. One question: Can I use the RecentChanges API and filter by that tag (using the
rctag
parameter)? Plantaest (talk) 14:37, 12 December 2024 (UTC)- @Plantaest Thank you for this question, we checked and it turned out this wouldn't have been possible, so we're going to make a quick change to ensure it is possible when this feature rolls out! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 16:44, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Samwalton9 (WMF): Thanks. Besides the RecentChanges API, I think it's also important to consider the Revisions API (with the
rvtag
parameter) and the Usercontribs API (with theuctag
parameter). This will provide better support for tools that utilize these APIs. Plantaest (talk) 18:11, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
