Suggestions and questions about the event tool

[edit]

Hello everyone, the application of this tool seems important to achieve a better and smoother community on Wikipedia. I will answer the questions accordingly: - Yes it looks like a good tool, I also suggest the possibility of adding a co-host or another host even if it does not have permission in the meta

  • The study is good, I also suggest allowing the organizer to adjust the number of sub-pages from creating or removing and suggesting other pages not added in the local language.
  • We usually copy the content from another page and modify it to suit our event material. This method faces many problems because it adopts programming knowledge that most groups of society may not possess. I prefer having a clear interface for the organizer to fill it in an easy way. And the default has another distinctive with its own elements.
  • Working on the event creation tool is important for communities today. I suggest that its interface be simple, specifying at the stage the type of event, whether it is a competition, a virtual seminar, an in-person seminar, a workshop, or other events. The next step is to have suitable elements for each of the events with the ability to add additional information .
  • I am wondering if this tool can work across different Wikimedia projects from Wikipedia in its various languages to Wikimedia Commons etc.
  • It would be preferable if the tool takes a form mechanism with options that lead the organizer to his goal, for example, a basic formula for an activity, then options A: combs B: data C: Wikipedia or A: seminar B: workshop, and each option leads to sub-options, and this mechanism is adopted even in writing the final report

Many thanks for your work. --Sandra HANBO (talk) 15:17, 8 May 2023 (UTC) Bachounda (WMF) (talk) 13:12, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Comments and remarks on the tool

[edit]

The first question: Does the community need this tool? My answer is obviously yes, because the community certainly needs this tool to avoid creating new pages every time with Wikicode every time, and how many times there are errors that need to be corrected, and HTML and spss, and that's the first objective

For this tool, it must be centralized, that is to say that it must allow to offer several templates in the creation of pages around the two activities of the same class, because it is very important For example, a section containing the organizers, dates, etc. If it is possible to provide us with templates, we can create them directly

Another very important thing for me is translation, and this is one of the biggest challenges we face every time we create pages. For example, if we create a page and we want to translate it, we have to find a translation administrator every time and ask him to activate the translation. For organizers, that is, the functionality should be available automatically for organizers to facilitate the work of organizers who work in several languages, which means that the meta trusts them directly, which is a very big waste of time in this case.

Feedback on the event pages

[edit]

The event page creation project is very cool. I have already created at least 4 events with this system. There are just some features or elements to add to make it complete. For example, it is necessary to ask the participants to put their numbers on which we can contact them.

You have to play a part where you can give a comment about your motivation to participate in this activity or event.

Before each event I created the page and I adopt my own strategy to register participants by creating a WhatsApp group to add registrants.

The only thing I didn't like was seeing the participants mostly in red because they don't have a Meta user page. Can try to see in the future how the only Wikipedia user page would be enough to take into account the other user pages of other projects like Commons, Wikidata, Meta.

This initiative of creating an event page is very interesting as long as it allows us to execute all the tasks of an activity from start to finish. Barke11 (talk) 09:43, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

Theoretical suggestion

[edit]

Hi, here are some points:

The versions adapted for phone or tablet, IOS version , Android, etc to improve. URLs, acquire domain names like Wikimedia Groups user.org instead of meta. Adding application for discussion and internal video conferencing (registration and invitation by Wiki pseudonym or Wikimedia account). Adding the event in a general calendar and publishing the announcement trailer, as well as its Wikidata element. Insertion of the event's logo in the url as well as clickable icons. Thanks a lot!
