Add topicMascot
[edit]Hi guys (Raymond Ellis, Doc James, eranroz) I hope you all dont mind but during my adventures in Mauritius I came across this little guy. He is a dodo and is in need of a name but I though that he (or she) would make a great and nicely ironic mascot and member of the Wikimedia Cuteness Association for us. What are your thoughts? What should we call the little fellow?--Discott (talk) 13:46, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- I like the suggestion from Daniel Mietchen to name him Do-Do "to emphasize that it's all about doing stuff through automation". Ainali (talk) 18:13, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- +1 to both of you! Quiddity (talk) 06:46, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
AI legislation
[edit]Dear AI developers and all,
as you might already know, the EU is working about a regulation of the AI environment, in order to promote its potential and at the same time to protect the citizens from unwanted uses. It is going to be an important moment for achieving the most empowering, safe and clear definition of the rights and duties related to the AI, affecting also Wikimedia's opportunities, not only inside EU. I kindly invite you all to participate to the discussion, firstly by commenting the page that is dedicated to it, in order to draft Wikimedia's answers to this legislative initiative of the EU.
The linked page contains the questions from the public consultation by the European Commission on its Artificial Intelligence White Paper.
The EU's survey will remain open until 14 June 2020, but we will take input into account until 31 May 2020.
Thanks, --Mattia Luigi Nappi (talk) 21:10, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
Future Audiences calls
[edit]Hi everyone, there's a small team at the Wikimedia Foundation called Future Audiences which aims to do experiments (not big products!) around things we think will impact our future, like Artificial Intelligence. The next call, where we will among other things talk about attribution, will take place on October 19, 14:00. Please email futureaudienceswikimedia.org to get a link. You can read more at Talk:Future Audiences#The next monthly Future Audiences video call: October 19, 14:00 UTC and see recordings from previous calls, or read the notes, at Future Audiences#Monthly conversations. This page
[edit]Hi! I've started drafting a very simple AI landing page over at User:Johan (WMF)/AI landing page, to make it easier to keep track of the various Wikimedia initiatives around AI/ML. I've been considering if it would be helpful if try to work it into this page, which isn't very active, or if I'd mess with an ongoing initiative, so I should let this page be and put it somewhere else? Is this an active group of people whose page I shouldn't touch, or is the activity around this happening locally in the separate communities, the Facebook group and the Telegram group? Opinions? Johan (WMF) (talk) 13:44, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- Added to the apge since no one protested in the months since I posted here. Julle (talk) 13:37, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
Wikimedia Commons AI
[edit]Dear people who are interested in AI, I just submitted a proposal for a new Wikimedia project called Wikimedia Commons AI. It's the same as Wikimedia Commons, but the idea is that all media created by humans are placed on Wikimedia Commons, and all media created by AI are placed on Wikimedia Commons AI. This could potentially offer a solution to the ongoing discussions currently taking place on Wikimedia Commons (see here). I would like to invite you to join the discussion and contribute your thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of Wikimedia Commons AI. Kind regards, S. Making Wikipedia available in audio format
[edit]Please see WikiProject Wikipedia spoken by AI voice for audio examples and sign up if you're interested. It's still a very new WikiProject – new participants are very welcome and I could help out if you have any issues. Natural-sounding novel AI voice tech that exists only since about one year is being used for this. If you spot any issues with the audios please point them out with this template so that these can be fixed. So far, only ~2 k ENWP articles can be listened to in audio format; I already enjoy regularly listening to Wikipedia instead of to podcasts. Prototyperspective (talk) 19:05, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
