Talk:Abstract Wikipedia/ZObject

[edit]Do we really have to use the word "ZObject" everywhere in the extension translation?
It's difficult to translate, and not easy to understand in English either.
How often will it actually be seen by people who edit the functions wiki?
Can we perhaps use some other name, at least in the less technical contexts? I mean, we say "item" and "property" and not "Q entity" or "P object" in Wikidata, and everyone seems to be happy.
So can we maybe say "a function object" instead? Or maybe "a function entity"? Or, simplest of all, "a function"?
I'd venture to say that it may be more important that the name of the wiki :) --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 12:51, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, good point. Would just 'object' do? denny (talk) 13:26, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know the technology well enough to be certain. But it's quite possible that it's enough. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 13:57, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- You can translate is as "Z-Object", just like there are "Z-ID", "Q-ID", i.e. as a compound, probably keeping the letter Z (but may be eventuallly transliterated) and the translation of the word "Object", and joining them in a suitable order (you can swap them accounding to the language). If you use transliteration for Z such that it has to become several letters, using a hyphen may help: the MixedCase used in English may not apply. You may as well translate keeping Z untransliterated, buyt emphasized by italics, or surrounded by quotation marks. There are many ways to do that.... Just select the best (but my opinion is that the letter "E" should be kept as it is related to the form of the unique identifier, i.e. a Z-ID like "Z1".). verdy_p (talk) 01:18, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Z3K1/Key
[edit]Object Z3K1/Key should be Z3/Key ? This object is differ beings than key of any object, especially differ from it key Z3K1/value type (Z4/Type) Borneq (talk) 15:53, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Borneq: I think the confusion comes from the name of Z3/Key, sorry for that. It would be more explicit "Z3/Key declaration". And Z3K1/Value type is the type of the value associated with that key on the object it is declared on. For example, exactly what we are discussing now for Z3K1, whether it would be Z4/Type or Z3/Key.
- OK, that was probably a bit too meta. Z11/Monolingual text has two keys (so the type declaration has two key declarations), and the first Z3/Key declaration is for Z11K1, which has the Z3K1/value type Z60/Language. Does this make any sense or did I misunderstood what you said? --DVrandecic (WMF) (talk) 02:15, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
