Out of 15 applications submitted to the Call for Software Contributions, Wikimedia Deutschland chose two promising projects to be developed by December 2024. Read the full statement here and learn more about the new project partners, Wiki Movement Brazil User Group (WMB) and the Wikidata 'One Click Info' Extension's team, here.

Below you can find a short summary of all projects submitted. Wikimedia Deutschland expresses their gratitude to all affiliates and teams who shared their ideas with us.

Affiliate name Project description
Open Foundation West Africa The Wikidata Sustainability Dashboard that leverages Wikidata and other Wikibase resources for monitoring and visualizing sustainability-related data
Wikimedistas de Uruguay Internationalization and usability improvements for Wikicurricula, a dashboard for curriculum data
Wiki Movimento Brasil Wiki Infographics MVP - Leveraging structured Wikidata information to create informative and visually engaging infographics in both fixed and dynamic formats, under an open license.
Mobile app for Wikidata - Developing an interface that enables users to edit Wikidata directly from their mobile device.
QuickStatements 3.0 - New version of QuickStatements that is easier to maintain, gives clear errors and minimizes the current limitations.
Wikibase Community User Group Integrating form-based entity creation using Shape Expressions into the Wikibase UI.
Wikidata 'One Click Info' Extension's team (with fiscal sponsorship by the Dagbani Wikimedians User Group) This project is about creating a web browser extension that will run on Chrome and Firefox browser and in long term on other browsers as well and if it is activated will allow the user to get a quick summary of the wikidata item highlighted.
Igbo Wikimedians User Group Wikidata mobile app that helps users discover and learn about historical landmarks, museums, and cultural sites near their current location.
Wikimedians of Kerala User Group Wikidata android app and desktop app that helps users to view, edit, update, delete wikidata items, statements using REST Api.
Yoruba Wikimedians User Group "Wikidata Synergy" proposes an innovative application leveraging Wikidata's collaborative potential to enrich knowledge across diverse domains. Users can explore and contribute to Wikidata, earning recognition for their valuable input in a gamified manner.
Wikibase Community User Group and Wikibase Stakeholder Group Improved reconciliation support for Wikibase instances via dedicated extension supporting better OpenRefine integration and replacing the existing Python reconciliation service.
African & Proud (AP) The Wikidata Enrichment Tool is a project aimed at enhancing the quality and completeness of Wikidata, a collaborative knowledge base. Using advanced filtering algorithms and user-friendly interfaces, the initiative identifies Wikidata items lacking essential references or images and empowers users to contribute missing information. By engaging the community in improving data integrity and expanding the platform's knowledge base, the initiative aims to foster a more reliable and comprehensive resource for researchers, developers, and enthusiasts worldwide.
Wikimedia Sverige Creating Rust infrastructure for the Wikidata REST API by writing and publishing a Rust crate (i.e. library) for it. Port an existing tool, Cradle to Rust, making use of the new crate and thereby the REST API. As Cradle is bundled with Wikibase in the wikibase.cloud service, but working poorly, the porting is an opportunity to rebuild parts of the tool so that it better supports Wikibases beyond Wikidata.
Ohio Wikimedians User Group An open, collaborative, and comprehensive Wikibase serving as a catalog and API for short fiction. We will use the new REST API to import short story data into both Wikidata and a new topic-specific Wikibase focused on fictional stories. The creation of a shared resource is important for discovery of international and underrepresented writers, and allows for a layer of consumer and business applications to be built on top of the data. As part of this project, we will build a new, generic, and portable "item creation" tool utilizing the Wikibase REST API, to act as an easy-to-use self-service tool for the public. This tool will be designed to be generic and portable for other subject-specific Wikibase projects to configure and utilize for their own needs. We will also document and publicize the new Wikibase's API for external projects to use our fiction catalog for their own frontends, apps, searching, etc.
Wikimedia UK Aros Mae will be an artistic web app which plays for you a continuous evolving soundscape and visual montage drawn from Commons media content, thematically guided by Wikidata statements. This will explore the concept of everything being interrelated. Anybody with a smartphone or laptop can enjoy the project, which will provide an easy and engaging way to have a taste of Wikidata and Commons, with playful interaction. For example, content and data relating to historical events and locations would be used to generate ambient visuals displayed. Audio files such as bird sounds and word pronunciations would be sampled and used as interactive generative synthesizers, and so on.
