Shine Her Light Writing Contest 2025
ABOUT
In commemoration of International Women's Day, Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA) is proud to launch the second edition of the Shine Her Light Campaign, running from 8th March to 31st March 2025. This initiative continues our commitment to bridging the gender content gap on Wikipedia by empowering women contributors to document the lives and achievements of notable African women.
The first edition of the campaign saw remarkable success, leading to the creation of over 200 new articles and edits highlighting African women’s contributions to society. Now, we are building on this momentum, ensuring that even more stories of inspiring women are told and preserved in the digital space.
Through a series of trainings, edit-a-thons, and community engagements, Shine Her Light 2025 will equip women with the skills to contribute meaningfully to Wikipedia and other open platforms, amplifying African women's voices where they have been historically underrepresented.
