First WikiWomen Summit

@JasDolt's Plenary Talk for the Philippine Digitization of Local Laws and Ordinances

"Jasverenne Ferrer (@JasDolt) will be giving a lecture about Digitizing Local Laws and Ordinances and uploading them on Wikisource and WikiCommons at Wikimania 2023 in Singapore alongside other well-respected and distinguished personalities in the Wikimedia Movement.

Wikimania is the annual conference celebrating all the free knowledge projects hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation – with days of conferences, discussions, meetups, training, and workshops. Hundreds of volunteers and Free Knowledge leaders from around the world gather to discuss issues, report on new projects and approaches, and exchange ideas.

Jasverenne started early on joining edit a-thons when she was still in school. She would tag along in my projects and contribute her knowledge and skills whenever she is needed. She would help organize events, participate when needed, quietly helps out and later on, she is the resource person and teaches high school students in editing Wikipedia." -Vanj Padilla (August 10,2023)

Creative Commons Global Summit

"Creative Commons Global Summit 2023, Mexico City, Mexico highlights. I was asked to share about Commons Loves Local Laws or digitization of local laws, in a global discussion on Copyrights Law, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Large Language Models (LLM) Open Knowledge, Open Source, and Indigenous Culture preservation at the intersection of emerging technologies. Pilipinas represent!" -Vanj Padilla (October 7, 2023)

Wikiwomen Camp

"There were two strands for this bootcamp. One is capacity building and the other is strategy cohort.

I felt it was necessary for me to participate in the strategy cohort which tackled research and its impact on the Wikiwomen global community, its future and looking through it on a macroscopic lens.

How do we keep the Movement active inspite of emerging technologies such as AI and Machine learning? Will we be able to sustain the women communities and the movement?

We learned so much and contributed to the massive learning that the Core Organizing Team and the Wikimedia Foundation staff prepared for all of us. There were more or less 70 women participants from various countries and I am honored to be one of the delegates from the Philippines.

Learning opportunities such as this keeps us grounded, humble, grateful and inspired to do more, help uplift other women's plights because our success is measured by the number of people we helped become successful.

Cheers to all women!" -Vanj Padilla (October 26, 2023)
