Very useful
[edit]This would be very useful because:
- Many people don't write edit summaries (for these the tool could generate one)
- It could be used to show some interesting stats about one's (or others) contributions (e.g. see this)
- Many people write misleading or very incomplete or suboptimal edit summaries (the tool could show a generated one at least if that is enabled in the prefs which can e.g. help spot problematic edits better)
- People write edit summaries in very unstandardized ways while this tool could show standardized summaries (also relevant to point 2 above and the Edit types research)
- For large edits it could be very difficult and time-intensive to write a complete edit summary (maybe one could let the tool generate a summary and then only adjust it if needed)
It would be great if it was enabled to some extent – for example at first for all Edit summaries where people haven't provided or aren't giving an edit summary. I don't know how accurate and computational resources intensive it would be to generate summaries for all diffs so applications #3 and #4 may not be feasible any time soon. Thanks for this important research and if possible please let me know if there is any activity / progress toward implementing any of the above proposed applications or something similar.
