Please choose the reason that is most applicable.

  • The statement appears to be a direct quotation or close paraphrase of a source
  • The statement contains statistics or data
  • The statement contains surprising or potentially controversial claims - e.g. a conspiracy theory (see Wikipedia:List_of_controversial_issues for examples)

  • The statement requires a citation for reasons not listed above (please describe your reason in a sentence or two)

Reasons for not adding a citation

  • The statement only contains common knowledge - e.g. established historical or observable facts
  • The statement is in the lead section and its content is referenced elsewhere in the article

I can't decide whether this statement needs a citation

user interface: 'Save and next' doesn't clear current selection's reason dropdown

[edit]

After clicking Save and next, the dropdown selection of a specific reason for the current answer is not cleared and remains visible when the new article is loaded. (Using latest Firefox). Example: if I selected Yes and gave as a reason "The statement contains statistics or data" and then click Save and next I still see the previously given reason showing for the new problem. -- Paulscrawl (talk) 16:59, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads-up @Paulscrawl:, @Miriam (WMF): and I will look into this. Cheers, Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 21:18, 19 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Another dropdown issue: when I review my workset, the dropdown answers that I previously selected have been been "blanked." Only the yes/no/unsure and Comments/Other Reasons questions display my answers. Makes it unclear whether or not I've successfully submitted the workset with the appropriate answers. Chrome. Wikipedia license

[edit]

I can't see in the interface the title of the shown article or a link to the wiki page. Are you sure that you are respecting the license of Wikipedia in that way ? --Framawiki (talk) 06:10, 19 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks @Framawiki:, good question. I think we're okay because the WikiLabels tools is hosted on Wikimedia servers, but I'll look into this just to be sure Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 21:23, 19 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ugh, no. If you copy one Wikipedia page to another, like a draft, without inline credit or one in the summary, you're doing a copyright violation. Remember that authors of the content, and its copyright holders are volunteers themselves, not the WMF :) See en:Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Having a title+link of the page and a link to its history in the tool interface should as I know be sufficient. --Framawiki (talk) 22:17, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
While it seems not hard to add a license, are you certain it is required? After all, this is for research purposes, and I'm not quite sure this constitutes a publication in the sense of the copyright. That becomes different if the dataset gets published, I presume. Quality

[edit]

From the research page it's not immediately clear what kind of experience you expect contributors to have. For example, should they have general editing experience on the respective Wikipedia (say, 1000+ edits), should they have intimate knowledge of the reference policies on their wiki, or should they have administrator level experience with regards to enforcing reference policies? I'm a little uncertain if someone like me would be delivering sufficient 'quality' :) Effeietsanders (talk) 17:39, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Effeietsanders: excellent question. In my opinion, you certainly have sufficient expertise to contribute to this project :) All we're looking for is a basic, working knowledge of citation policy on the wikis in question, and some degree of direct experience adding citations to articles (on any wiki). Does that clear things up? We would love your help! Thanks, Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 19:11, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

User interface: cannot go back a question unless I refresh the page

[edit]

Begin new workset. Complete task 1. Start task 2. Try to click back to task 1 and nothing happens. Then I'm stuck on task 2 unless I refresh the page. Chrome. Hyperik (talk) 18:09, 24 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Labeling gadget not loading

[edit]

On every device I've tried, enwiki's "Labeling Unsourced Statements II" doesn't load properly: I don't see any statement to evaluate between "Should the statement below have a citation?" and "If you selected 'yes', please specify the main reason for your choice.", or anywhere else. However, other labeling tasks work just fine for me.

In my browser's DevTools, I see that an XHR request to https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/page/html/Myst_III:_Exile/<number redacted>/<GUID redacted> gives a 404 error with "type":"https://mediawiki.org/wiki/HyperSwitch/errors/not_found#route" in the response.

I want to help with this labeling task, but I don't seem to be able to. Do you know what's going on, and if it's a problem on my end or yours? Please let me know if there's anything else I can provide or do that could help in troubleshooting this.
