Rangeblocks vs. editors

[edit]

I expect this ihas already been thought about, but I would like to see a graph of total number of IP adresses blocked in rangeblocks vs. active editors (5+ edits / month). It would be interesting to know if there is a correlation between rangeblocks and the beginning of the editor decline in mid-2007. Last time I checked was over a year ago and we had close to 11 million IP addresses blocked at that point. 64.40.54.4 06:18, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Could be interesting; I'll pull in the active editor numbers and compare against things like open proxy blocks when I've rewritten the code. Thanks for the suggestion! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 16:59, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the note, Oliver. I was curious, so I grabbed editor data from stats:EN/TablesWikipediaEN.htm and rangeblock data from en:Wikipedia:Database reports/Range blocks. The rangeblock data only went back to August 2009, so I'm limited by that. Here's a table of the data.

What I find most interesting—when graphing the data—is that the number of IPs blocked seems to grow exponentially starting around March 2012. It will be interesting to see the graph around mid-2007 when the editor decline started happening. Best. 64.40.54.190 06:14, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
