Requests for new languages/Wikiversity Dutch

	This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).

Settings
Project name	Wikiversity	"Wikiversity" in your language
Project namespace		usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace		"Wikiversity talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads	yes	Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin"). Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo		This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone		"Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces		For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings		Anything else that should be set
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above.

Arguments in favor

Dutch is spoken by 30 million people, I'm sure many of them would be willing to help. I believe it is time we get a Dutch Wikiversity.

Dutch is the only big language without a wikiversity. Much Dutch people would like one. Now, very much things Dutch people know isn't coming on the wikiversity because of the fact that there isn't a Dutch wikiverity. I hope, that in de nearby future there will be an Dutch Wikiversity. I have generated the Hilbert Book Model Project in English. My native language is Dutch. I want to translate the project in Dutch. It can then act as a test sample.. I'm sorry, but at the time I added this, I was rather angry on those people that constantly say Limburgish is a dialect based on Dutch (while they haven't ever heard a single word of it!) I think the dutch wiki university should have a course about languages like Limburgish. There is a lot to learn about dialects based on limburgish, dutch and low saxon. General discussion

No, but RedTribe said Limburgish is a dialect of Dutch, but you could see it from the other side too. Limburgish and Dutch are languages that are very related. It is a fact that allmost every Limburgish speakers understand Dutch, but sadly does everyone of the 30 milion Dutchspeakers understand Limburgish. The official language of the Netherlands is Dutch. This is not the first attempt

I have tried several times now to set-up a community for Dutch Wikiversity (Within Dutch Wikipedia and Dutch Wikibooks community), which failed equal times. There is just not enough interest or participation for this at this moment. Therefore I have tried to set-up a wikiversity within the Wikibooks-project (we also host Wikijunior there) with the idea this could be a separate project afterwards after it has grown. Alas due to lack of participation and interest I did nog fully develop this as yet, but I intend to and welcome help.

Setting up a separate Wikiversity at this time is a waste of resources for localisation and also for maintenance on the wiki, but I do welcome you to join the Dutch Wikibooks community so that we can set-up the Wikiversity within this environment and use some synergy.

For me it is still dificult to find out the difference between Wikibooks en Wikiversity. If I look to courses on EN:WV and books on EN:WB the distinction is not too big. Some books on Dutch Wikibooks have been expanded with something I think would be Wikiversity like: tests about the content: external links to educative sites about the subject, and so on.

I propose to set-up a department Wikiversity within Wikibooks and redirect nl.wikiversity.org to that. Pjetter 07:23, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
