This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.A committee member provided the following comment: This test project is coming along nicely. We need more regular contributors, and more regular activity, before this project can get a subdomain of its own. For LangCom: StevenJ81 (talk) 16:05, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | si (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Sinhala | Language name in English |
Language name | සිංහල | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
Language Wikidata item | Q13267 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | LTR | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Site URL | si.wikisource.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | විකිමූලාශ්ර | "Wikisource" in your language |
Project namespace | විකිමූලාශ්ර | usually the same as the project name |
Project talk namespace | විකිමූලාශ්ර සාකච්ඡාව | "Wikisource talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) |
Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). | |
Default project timezone | Asia/Colombo | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Proposal
[edit]A lot of texts have been uploaded and created in Sinhala Wikibooks project because people were not aware that they should be going to the Wikisource project. I believe it is time Sinhala language has it's own sub domain for Wikisource. --Lee (talk) 12:19, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Strong support : This is a very important initiative. There is a wide variety of classical literary and religious texts from the medieval periods that deserve to be published on Wikisource. This is in addition to more recent and modern literature. We already have an active community working on Sinhala Wikipedia, Wikibooks and other Wikimedia projects. --Anandawardhana (talk) 10:24, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
- Are there any guidelines to help people who do not have sufficient technical knowledge in projects of this nature? --Lee (talk) 13:40, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose, per above, and per the same reasoning of my oppose for Wikinews Sinhala. Perhaps in the medium-to-long term future, once a community is properly established, and in my personal preference; once we can see Sinhala Wikipedia with enough active volunteers that it can cope against spam, copyvio, and other junk, in a timely manner. Siwiki currently has thousands of bad content still pending deletion, some of which dates back over a decade, unfortunately. I'm also quite disturbed on the proposer's reason for objecting to my offer to help at siwiki, which indicates to me that if Wikisource Sinhala goes online, it too would be run in a rather "private wiki" manner. - Another of personal attacks on me! I don't like it. This shouldn't be how things work in these projects; right? --Lee (talk) 09:16, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
