Requests for new languages/Wikiquote Malay
submitted | verification | final decision |

This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Optional settings | ||

Arguments in favour
[edit]- I strongly support the creation of Malay Wikiquote!! Because since Wikipedia Malay is ever expanding and expanding. We as a Wiki ms community, strongly need to give way to new sister projects that haven't been exist yet. This have to be done in order to bolster our Malay language wiki community site capacity to its max. — Imran Al-Sahih 02:56, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm in favour of the existence of Malay Wikiquote since there are a lot of quotes from Malay history, proverbs, transcripts and so much more. Hence, it's good to establish this project so that they all can be kept in one single project and easy to organize 'em. — Polar 08:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

General discussion
[edit]I really wonder where can we get the quotations... We can't infridge copyrights... --Edmund the King of the Woods! 11:20, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sir Edmund, don't worry about copyright infringement. I have a Malay proverb book which contains very large amount of quotation. Imran Al-Sahih 11:34, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- Mostly, Malay quote is a fair use such as Hang Tuah's "Takkan Melayu Hilang di Dunia". It has been used for a lot of times without any violation of copyrights. The important is, we have to know which is which. See english wikiquote and learn from there. — Polar 11:46, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Is translation from the English Wikiquote allowed to be used for other versions? There are some translated quotes in the Malay Wikipedia portals. 219.95.17.91 02:14, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Should be, if the original quotes are in Malay. Can you point to the specific quotes that you found? ...Aurora... 01:47, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Just as I thought, my Malay proverb book is copyrighted, but that book is a 1993 book. Can we just take the proverb from my copyrighted book even if it is copyrighted? because I think maybe the copyrights of my Malay proverb book has already expired long time ago. We can still translate some quote into Malay from Wikiqoute en as our only source. Let us hope and pray that this wikiqoute ms will flourish just like wikiquote en. — Imran Al-Sahih 08:30, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
There are several types of copyright, in books in Malay for a very long time and anyone could look up books in the University of Malaya Library or similar to find sources that cannot be copyright. Legally I dont think anyone would have a case to copyright proverbs anyway. JAN 3 April 2008

[edit]This project has been given conditional approval. It makes no difference how many people vote for it. What does make a difference are the people that demonstrate the viability of a ms.wikiquote. GerardM 12:50, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Localisation update
[edit]Currently 99.11% of the MediaWiki messages and 4.15% of the messages used in extensions used by the WMF projects have been localised at this moment. Thanks, GerardM 20:02, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Currently 99.81% of the MediaWiki messages and 94.67% of the messages of the extensions used by the Wikimedia Foundation projects have been localised. Localisation of these messages is a requirement before your request is finally assessed. This is the recent localisation activity for your language. Thanks, GerardM 13:49, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
