This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Proposal
[edit]Am proposing for Central Kanuri Wikipedia opening. as the language has more than 3 million speakers, they can't contribute to the development of the language as the language is still in the Incubator, because most people can't access the page in the Incubator,am proposing for the language to get its Sites soon for easy access and to get more engagement, page visits and contributions. As most people can see we have been trying our best to see that the Kanuri language is out from the incubator so any relevant help is needed so those with the authority should look into it we are ready to give our best thanks: --MohammedBama123 (talk) 06:00, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Probably needs some more discussions, as Kanuri is a macrolanguage with 3 member languages: Manga Kanuri (kby), Central Kanuri (knc) and Tumari Kanuri (krt). Do we have ideas why re-opening kr: is already enough for (at least) these 3 Kanuri varieties? Or are there any reasons splitting isn't fair? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:36, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response, yes re-opening kr:will be enough for all, as you can see even before the wiki was closed all the three member languages are under the kr:wiki because they all use the same writing and understand each other's dielect .
- They all use the same text so I don't see any reason for splitting for now. MohammedBama123 (talk) 22:13, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hope you are doing good am still waiting for your response thanks MohammedBama123 (talk) 07:27, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
- Ethnologue divides Kanuri into the following languages, while many linguists (e.g. Cyffer 1998) regard them as dialects of a single language. The first three are spoken by ethnic Kanuri and thought by them as dialects of their language. MohammedBama123 (talk) 05:05, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Liuxinyu970226 and @Umargana1 and other members, after going through the discussions and making some research and consultations I came to learn that there are some difference in some words pronunciation and localisation in the varieties.
- For instance if you want to say am Going in Manga it will be pronounce as (Lenikin) whilst in Kanuri Central is (leyin) and many other words so I consider splitting the language varieties will be fair enough MohammedBama123 (talk) 20:57, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Liuxinyu970226 and other community members. First of all my Apologies for creating Another talk page I have read the policy's again and again to understand it fully and I learn from my mistakes. Secondly the issue of macrolanguage it is what urge us to create meetings between the community members and we make some research and consult some language expert. And also we also consult professor of department of linguistics of Maiduguri university. Professor Ali Dikwa. Due to our reserch and understanding we have come to conclusion and agree of splitting the varieties. Our reason is due to our reserch we discovere that the central kanuri, manga kanuri, and Tumari kanuri have the same writing script and Alphabets but the have lots of differences when it's comes to pronounsation. This is the reason why we think the splitting it's will be good idea for future references and easy to understand the written articles in the communitys.Umargana1 (talk) 19:22, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Umargana1 Well indeed, the eligibility of a macrolanguage is a case-by-case question, there's no fixed answers, if the evidences can be provided that these 3 member language codes just pointed to rural dialects of Kanuri, and they follow the same Kanuri writing language, then using kr is already enough, but if there are, in different ways, informations that these 3 members are not simply "dialects" but also have cultural/environmental/historical differents that result each members can't understand others easily, then I'm afraid splitting shall be considered. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 09:10, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes there's lot of difficulties in undstsanding the dialects of each other due to the migration of kanembu to cameroon and some part of chad has has make there toungue a bit different from central kanuri which known as yerwa kanuri. And they are not living in the same rural areas anymore. Only few in both parties can understand the dailect of each other while the majority found it's difficult to understand each other. So I still think the splitting will be good for easy understandingUmargana1 (talk) 19:02, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- Given what Umargana1 has said, I suggest changing the code to knc, which is the code for Central Kanuri, the dialect they are using. Caro de Segeda (talk) 23:04, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- FYI, there are still 4 pages prefixed as Wp/kr/ and didn't moved into "Wp/knc/", should they also be moved? Or they're belonging to other Kanuri dialects? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 05:25, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- The three prefixes belong to the Kanuri central I have moved them ,and one is in another language i have deleted it thank you MohammedBama123 (talk) 05:35, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

- Support Am in support of splitting the verities to avoid dialectical confusion in the future. Misbahu umar (talk) 12:19, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
So, after speaking to Umargana1, I suggest moving all articles from Wp/kr to Wp/knc as that is the code for the dialect they are using. If everybody agrees I can do it myself and everybody can start creating articles using that code. Pinging @Mustybdc, Banabulama, Misbahu umar, Umargana1 --Caro de Segeda (talk) 22:53, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
We have agreed to move Wp/kr to Wp/knc due to the fact that the Wikipedia is written in that dialect. I proceed to do so. All new pages should have the code Wp/knc/Name of the article. --Caro de Segeda (talk) 18:05, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- Yes we all agreed to do so Mustybdc (talk) 18:16, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
Translatewiki
[edit]@Liuxinyu970226: So, as we are using he code KNC fo Central Kanuri, I would like to ask you what happens with the messages translated in translatewiki, as they are already translated from the time we used the KR code. --Caro de Segeda (talk) 07:04, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- Ask at phab: instead? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 07:12, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
