- Another request by Scott Gall with complete absence of native speakers, fluent speakers, or even advanced learners. Should be denied, along with all past and future requests from him. --Node ue 16:49, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- ALL past requests? But two of them have made it to the "discussion ongoing" stage, and one user is hoping somebody will start the Lowland Scots WP. NazismIsntCool 07:09, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC) PS: I think he's taken a bit of a back seat on the request bomb... for now.
- Conlang invented in 1996 by Diego Marani. A wikipedia in this language might help it gain acceptance. Scott Gall 12:52, 28 May 2005 (UTC)
- Oppose. The purpose of Wikipedia is not to promote people's pet conlangs. —Psychonaut 01:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- Europanto has had a novel and newspaper articles published in it in the last 10 years, which is more than some of the languages proposed. It's a sort of lingua franca for language geeks with a sense of humor. (And I wasn't expecting you to go ahead and propose it already, Mr. Gall...) Almafeta 23:00, 28 May 2005 (UTC)
- LOL, but yet worth to be considered. How many speakers does this nice little language have? Caesarion 11:18, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
- I can't tell you, since Europanto hasn't exactly been measured on any census yet. The French Wikipedia notes one original novel (Las adventures des inspector Cabillot) and translated works of Finnegan's Wake and various classical French authors I'm not familiar with. This site has 100 Europanto texts, mostly political in nature (with one recipe, for some reason). Almafeta 02:03, 31 May 2005 (UTC) (forgot to sign nn;)
- I think this language will be beneficial to people who speak the languages used here. I know some, if not all, of these tongues, but there should be a page which lets you know which language to use with which word. Scott Gall 08:39, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- A 'false cognate' page and a glossary (26 pages, one per letter) would be useful. Almafeta 18:20, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

- Hi, Scott Gall! Just a one question about your request: What would be the actual use of a Europanto WP? As far as I know it is a mixture of several major (western) European languages. We have flourishing Wikipedias in all of those languages already. So what would be the point of a, say, mixed English-French-German-Spanish-Italian encyclopedia? Arbeo 13:40, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- And Dutch, don't forget that one. Yes Arbeo, it is as useful or useless as the Wikipedias in minor comlangs like Volapük and Interlingue. But I can't see any principal objections as long as you find enough contributors; it is a language after all. The main question is: should this one be allowed as a wikipedia or should it be erected at Wikicities? Let's discuss about that. Caesarion 14:48, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- All right. But let's have this scenario - they have limited proficiency in all six of the languages mentioned, and possibly a high command of a language not included. This is one way they can use their second languages while still learning. Scott Gall 10:33, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

- The main problem with Europanto is that it doesn't have a solid vocabulary. You can say "invest in the boerse" (invest in the stock-market), "invest in la stockmarket", "invertir dinero in the boerse" (equivalent to Spanish construction "invertir dinero en la bolsa" -- "dinero", meaning "money", is not optional as in English)... "I quiero taco bell", "Je want taco bell", "Yo will tacobell"... "I have a bisogno of usar the WC", "Tengo que use la WC", "Ich habe besoin de utilizzare the toilet", "Tengo need d'utilise de WC", "Ik need craparante in la WC", "Ich habe bisogno di go a drop les enfants off inne le swimming-pool"... --Node ue 16:49, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- For clarification: What do you mean by 'solid' here? 'Solid' as in mandated by some central organizing committee, or 'solid' as in able to handle mundane tasks? Almafeta 6 July 2005 07:45 (UTC)
- I support the idea of an europanto-wikipedia. As long as it is not as dead as the Volapük-one. Tiontai 20:02, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- It won't be. I bet NZ$50 that the Volapuk Wikipedia will lose five articles before the end of July. 203.167.171.185 22:54, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

- I like the idea of an Europanto Wikipedia. I would most certainly be reading it. Unable to contribute, though, my support is 'consumer-only', and 'would-be-fun-to-read', only. -- 84.60.210.248 09:08, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hi. I'm the webmaster of the antediluvian Archivos Europanto and the administrator of this forum and, by the way, the last writer for fr:Europanto. Of course I'm interested in this discussion and willing to contribute for an Europanto Wikipedia. The main question is : the words that would be defined/explained in there would be ... Europanto words ? Well, there isn't (one) unique word(s) to name an object, a verb or a concept in Europanto. One way to solve this problem could be to find a main word that would be best fit in the Europanto way of thinking ( mainly funny and understandable ) and beside the ( mainly funny and understandable ) description, to propose alternative words for it ... ?
smh 25 October 2005 (UTC) - Good idea. I will write some articles if this project comes up to reality. Lydio 00:07, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- I like the idea of a Europanto Wikipedia. But it couldn't be yet-another-Wikipedia. Because everybody who "speaks" Europanto also speaks (by definition!) other languages and can read/contribute to other Wikipedias. And because Europanto is itself basically a joke. A europanto-wikipedia could be a good place to relax for polyglot (is that a word?) wikipedians, and it may very well become an experience in language building. We already know what happens when we let everybody write an encyclopedia: the result is Wikipedia. But what happens when we let everybody create the words themselves in that encyclopedia? With a few set of rules (for example, don't create a ep:tomato article if someone else has already written ep:pomodoro ; and try to be funny, because humour seems to be as fundamental in Europanto as nouns or verbs in other languages), it may produce something. But maybe it's not serious enough for Wikipedia... Thbz 23:21, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
- Well of course it won't really be like wikipedias in other languages ...Don't forget that at the very beginning, with EUROPANTO BRICOPOLITIK articles, there was humour of course, but serious subjects were treated. Probably more in a satiric way. By the way and as far as I am concerned, even if I "speak" other languages than French, I don't think I'm qualified enough to contribute in other languages (I'm not a linguist). We could also think of something built like that : for example, related to the "serious" definition of pokemon, the example : poubellou (http://www.europanto.contagions.com/euro16.html#940) smh 23 January 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose I agree with Node_ue's considerations, the main risk is that edits on such a wikipedia will mainly be swapping of a German and a French term and similar, rather than writing actual content. --Cruccone 12:27, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
