There seems to be a series of ongoing problems at the Kurdish Wikipedia.
While my skills in Kurdish is nonexistent, from my Turkish skills alone I can identify some problems.
- ku:Pêşangeha şehîdên PKK (page history) - article (rough translation: Martyrs of PKK) (I do not know what Pêşangeha means)
- ku:Şablon:Galeriya Şehîdên PKK (page history) - template (rough translation: Gallery of Martyrs of PKK)
- ku:Kategorî:Şehîd (page history) - category (rough translation: Martyrs)
- Şehit translates as martyr. To my knowledge word has of Arabic origins and being a 'şehîd' is like the holiest of deaths in Islam. That doesn't look remotely neutral to me. I do like to add that PKK is considered as a terrorist organization by all of NATO, EU countries as well as many others. US State Dept.
- Wikipedia is also not a memorial, none of these "martyr" look notable. Some do not even have articles about them yet are presented with a picture. Most of them only have a single line about them. Furthermore on English Wikipedia only a handful have articles about them. Their notability is yet to be contested on English Wikipedia.
- Most of the images presented there seems to be copyvios. Which legal system does ku.wiki fall under? Turkish? Iranian? Syrian? Iraqi? US? Whichever it is, those pictures are copyvios. They neither have a license or source.
- Another important problem is that all three of the template, category, and article mentioned here as well as individual pages appearing on the "Şehîd" category had been written by ku:User:Erdal Ronahi, a ku.wiki admin and bureaucrat. He doesn't seem to have the basic understanding of WP:NPOV, WP:NOT and half a dozen policies which should be a part of any project (IMHO). I do believe WP:NPOV applies to each and every wiki since Jimmy Wales and various board members have established it to be a non-negotiable policy on a number of occasions. Correct me if I am wrong.
- Another thing I noticed is User rights log. en:User:Diyako was banned from en.wiki for a year for pov pushing and incivility (IIRC).
Ku.wiki is probably blocked in Iran for this reason. Similar blocks may come from other countries such as Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and etc affecting entire wikipedia languages because of this problem.

[edit]- I looked at the photographs used on ku.wikipedia and most of them either have strange or no licensing at all, and most are lacking sources. I do not know what copyright these photos are under, I do not know where most are taken. I want to assume US law, since this is where the Foundation is based at. But, right now, I am going to replace the usage of the problem images will images from the Commons, which I created an account on ku for that purpose. Zscout370 00:10, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Certainly not a wikipedia stuff. Most images might be claimed to be PD under 1972 Iraqi law ( but that need to be proven ). The shahadt term they are using means to die for the Kurd cause, well at least the PKK case. still this is not the same as Islamic shahadt. From the Notability POV, I guess they are all well known in PKK ( I don't think that is good enough), a few might be more well known. PKK being considered a terrorist organization by US NATO or EU is irrelevant. Yet this thing is a one big memorial page, a well arranged propaganda material.--Tarawneh 00:29, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- ku:User:Erdal Ronahi who is the admin and b'crat in question is listed as en-3 on the above linked user page. Has anyone even asked him about this before launching an inquiry?--BirgitteSB 01:27, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- done that. -- 217.51.191.207 22:46, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

- I think notability must be viewed in local sense. Things that are notable in some languages - and hence in related cultures - may not necessarily be so in other ones. And I think this page can be viewed as a category with a slightly different style than what we are used to. Gulmammad 01:53, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
