From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The result of the following proposal for closing a WMF project is to KEEP the project. Please, do not modify this page.

The following discussion is closed.

I propose closure of Tahitian Wikipedia. There are hardly any native users in the project. Since its creation in 2005, it has 866 articles (averaging 5 a year). Recently, there has been a flood of copyvios/test pages and vandalism in the wiki. Since no one has expressed any interest about the project for 5 years, I propose it be closed. In 30 April it was get over more than 1000 articles but in 20 June 2010, it jump to 866 articles. --Lousyi 06:40, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  3. Support closing this project. There's been no content creation in the last 30 days.[1] I respect the oppose comments which say there should be a Tahitian Wikipedia. Unfortunately, we don't have a real Wikipedia to offer Tahitians -- just a pretend Wikipedia with just one barely active editor (plus spam and vandalism clean-up people that don't speak Tahitian). We can always restart this project when someone steps forward who will actually start building more content. In the meantime, this project is just wasting others' time on cleanup. --A. B. (talk)

  10. Oppose I don't see any benefit in closing projects just because they don't reach a certain level of activity, unless they actively harm the WMF. (I don't see that here.) What are the advantages of closing it, and preventing speakers from helping it, over keeping it and letting it grow (even if very slowly)? That's removing knowledge, not adding to it. Tahitian has 120,000+ speakers, more than a lot of languages we cover. As more people in remote areas like the South Pacific get access to the internet, the project will, I'm sure, get more visibility. Give it time, folks. 12. Oppose – It won't grow if it's not there. Leave it as it is; it won't bite. Iketsi 22:57, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  13. Oppose – I remember when people suggested closing it years ago when it had 7 articles and look how it's grown and blossomed. Definite oppose. Smilez14 17:47, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

  • Comment Proposing user just attempted to close an ongoing discussion according to his own vote. The above request seems to be an almost ad-verbatim copy of the request s/he opposed. Seb az86556 09:36, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment It only requires a single user to get interested in the project for it to get back up and running. We've experienced the same situation on the North Sámi wiki (AFAIK none of us are native speakers) and our growth is painfully slow. Yet we plug on in the hopes that someone will be interested in it. Furthermore, in this day and age, location has nothing to do with someone being a native speaker of a language as Tahitian speakers could be studying and editing from abroad. -Yupik 18:36, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment, there is not much active wikipedians ty:Utilisateur:Emijrp/List_of_Wikipedians_by_number_of_edits (no edit since one month !) but this is not enough to close the

project for me. Cdlt, VIGNERON * discut. 06:15, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
